A good theme song can be the best part of any anime, andOne Pieceis no exception. Nearly everyOne Piecetheme song does a great job of combining catchy music with stellar visuals, and the quality of aOne Pieceopening is often seen as representative of the quality of its accompanying story arc.
If there’s ever anything to complain about when it comes toOne Piecetheme songs, it’s that they’re often filled with spoilers for the biggest events of the arc, and sure enough, the latest opening is rife with spoilers for the last act of the Egghead arc, but as always, that doesn’t make it any less fun to watch.
The Biggest Spoilers In One Piece’s New Opening Explained
Every Big Moment One Piece Just Spoiled
Anime openings filled with spoilersare frustratingly common, and “Carmine” by Ellegarden is no different forOne Piece. Some of the spoilers are fairly basic, just showing things like Zoro and Lucci’s fight continuing, the chaos of the Buster Call, and Dorry and Brogy arriving on Egghead, the last point already being spoiled in the preview for episode #1140.
The spoilers only get bigger from there, however. Not only does it spoil things like EMET’s awakening, Kizaru and Akainu’s argument in the epilogue, and Bonney realizing the connection between Luffy and Nika, but it also spoils the transformations of all the Five Elders, as well, although even that was spoiled byOne Piece’s upcomingJujutsu Kaisencollaboration.
The biggest spoilers, however, all center around Vegapunk; not only does it spoil Vegapunk’s death, but it also heavily spoils Vegapunk’s post-mortem speech about the World Government and the Void Century, all of which is heard by hundreds of returning characters. That forms the basis of the entire climax, and it’s surprising that it would be so easily spoiled.
Why One Piece’s New Opening Is Great, Despite All The Spoilers
What Makes One Piece’s New Opening So Great
Even withOne Piece’s new opening having so many spoilers, that doesn’t make it any less phenomenal. For starters, “Carmine” by Ellegarden is an incredible song to listen to on its own, and when put into the context ofOne Piece, the intensity of its music and lyrics perfectly highlights how much the Egghead arc will escalate.
Naturally, the opening also excels visually; Yuki Kamiya, best known for directing both of the gorgeous openings forJujutsu Kaisenseason 2, directed the new opening, and because of that, it easily boasts some of the most creative and all-around gorgeous visuals of anyOne Pieceopening at every turn.
None of that excuses the overabundance of spoilers, but most of them are being used to sell the opening’s biggest strengths, soOne Piece’s new opening is as great as it is specifically because it has so many spoilers. That idea is great to think about, and overall, it perfectly speaks to what makesOne Piecesuch an amazing anime.
