Netflixhas often been thought of asa destination for romantic comedies, and it’s getting a boost from the addition of an underrated gem. It’s often been argued that theatrical romcoms have suffered because streaming services have produced some of the best romantic comedies in recent years.

Palm Springs, the time loop comedy led by Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, is a shining example of this. It debuted to rave reviews and record-breaking viewership in July 2020. Netflix has had its own standouts, withSet It Upserving as a preview of the charm that Glen Powell would bring toAnybody But You. An underseen romcom anthology series may be one of the decade’s best, though.

When it was announced that the anthology had been renewed, it was announced thatThe Good Placestar William Jackson Harper would be stepping in to play a new main character. Love Life Season 2 Is One Of The Best Romcoms Of The 2020s

Kendrick reprises her role as Darby, briefly recurring as part oftheLove Lifeseason 2 cast. She’s an acquaintance of Marcus Watkins, who is played by Harper. On paper, the premise for the two seasons is identical. But what makes the second installment stand out is the chemistry between Harper and co-lead Jessica Williams as Mia Hines.

The journey that Marcus and Mia go on is a romantic comedy told over ten episodes and anchored by the absolutely stellar dynamic between the two main actors. That much is reflected in the Rotten Tomatoes score for season 2, which leaped to 95%, compared to 63% for season 1.

It’s not too surprising, considering how Harper established himself as a formidable lead withThe Good Place. As for Williams, she’s been a scene-stealer since her stint onThe Daily Showand continues to do so on the Apple TV+ dramedyShrinking. But the anthology has plenty to recommend it.

Whether it’sthe cleverLove Lifenarrationor the supporting cast that includes the likes of Jin Ha (Pachinko), Leslie Bibb (The White Lotusseason 3), and Arian Moayed (Succession), the anthology has to be seen to be truly appreciated. It’s arguably the best two great actors have ever been.
