Square Enix has developed numerous popular titles over the years, like 2018’sOctopath Traveler, which was launched as a traditional RPG exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The game would eventually expand to other platforms, which has led toOctopath Travelersurpassing a new sales milestone.
The story ofOctopath Travelerfollows eight different characters, all with unique classes and Path Actions, which can be used to interact with NPCs. Players are able to explore the HD-2D world of Orsterra, with a impressionable art style not found in many other games.Octopath Travelerpassed 1 million salessoon after its launch, and was generally well-received by critics and players alike.

In a tweet from the officialOctopath TravelerTwitter, it was revealed that the game has now passed 2.5 million sales. The artwork posted alongside the announcement features Cyrus Albright, a scholar that generally functions as the party’s mage and one of the main characters in the game. The tweet additionally thanked fans for all their support for the franchise, and said it was fitting that they made the announcement on the 25th of the month.Bravely Default 2got a shoutout as well, which makes sense since it comes out tomorrow.
This is a great sales milestone for theOctopath Travelerteam to meet, and shows how a new fan base has been created from this new IP. The game has been well-received enough that Square Enix is not only planning to make a sequel, but a prequel as well. The prequel is for mobile devices, and titledOctopath Traveler: Conquerors of the Continent.Unfortunately, the prequel is only available in Japan at the time, but it may eventually be brought to western audiences.
Fans ofOctopath Travelerwill have to wait for more information on the planned sequel, but there is plenty to tide them over until then.Bravely Default 2is releasing soon, andSquare Enix has announced the newProject Triangle Strategy. JRPG fans definitely have something to look forward to.
