Henry Alonso Myers: I don’t know. I know Alex [Kurtzman] is going to be doing ‘Starfleet Academy.’ But my focus is singular. I’m Strange New Worlds all the time. But would I like to get us right up to the edge of [The Original Series] and then have somebody call us and say, ‘Now make that show!'"
Akiva Goldsman: We literally have a fantastic cast, and we have incredible sets, and we have all these things right there — it’s a shame to waste it.

Read Akiva’s quote below:
Akiva Goldsman: We made a promise to ourselves that we would arc the show into [Star Trek: The Original Series]. And so we sort of thought, ‘Well, five year mission, okay, can we do five years?’ And we are really doing almost five—well, four and a little more than half. And we needed to be able to tell that story. Because right now [the characters] are in mid-stage development. How do they become who they are? What happens to some of them? Those are questions that we knew we needed to answer and promised to answer. And so that’s our five-year plan.
And then we run into TOS. But they’re not dying. And we have those sets…
Why Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Showrunners Are Hinting At Remaking Star Trek: The Original Series
Should Kirk’s Enterprise Get A New Show?
Now thatStar Trek: Strange New Worlds' ending is known, co-showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers can plan out the final season and bring theirStar Trekprequel about the USS Enterprise commanded by Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) to a fitting conclusion. However, the natural endpoint that Myers and Goldsman said they had planned all along was tobringStrange New Worldsto the"edge"ofStar Trek: The Original Series. At that point, Captain James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) would take over the Enterprise from Captain Pike.
By introducing Paul Wesley as a young Lieutenant James T. Kirk, and bringing in moreStar Trek: The Original Seriescharacters like Scotty (Martin Quinn),Strange New Worldshas been openly seedingKirk’s future Enterprise crew. Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers enjoy producingStrange New Worlds, and it’s logical they have hopes to keep going after Captain Pike’s"five-year mission"comes to an end. However, whether a new version ofStar Trek: The Original Seriescan happen on Paramount+ is a big question mark.
Our Take On Strange New Worlds' Showrunners Hinting About Making A New Star Trek: The Original Series
Could This Really Happen?
Given the uncertainty surrounding the future of theStar Trekfranchise on Paramount+, Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers hinting at creating a new version ofStar Trek: The Original Seriesseems like wishful thinking. Paramount Global’s complicated sale to SkyDance Media has already affected theStar Trekfranchise, andStrange New Worldsending in season 5seems to be a result of this transition. It’s unclear whether Paramount, SkyDance, or even audiences will want a new version ofStar Trek: The Original SeriesafterStrange New Worldsends.
Still, the building blocks are coming together forStar Trek: The Original Series. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has Kirk, Spock (Ethan Peck), Scotty, Ensign Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), and Dr. Joseph M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) already. It’s possible thatStrange New Worldswill introduce Mr. Sulu and Dr. Leonard McCoy by the time the show ends in season 5.Star Trek: Strange New Worldsis certain to end after five seasons, but Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers are hoping that"there are always possibilities"for more.
