Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Andor season 2!
One shockingPoe Damerontheory has emerged fromAndorseason 2, but we already know for certain that it’s incorrect.Andorhas officially come to a close withtheAndorseason 2 ending, and it left behind several shocking moments in its wake. Among those twists were Luthen Rael’s tragic death, Dedra Meero being punished (though not in the way you’d expect) for her actions, and—arguably the most surprising of them all—the revelation thatBix Caleen and Cassian Andor had a baby, who Cassian sadly never knew about.
InAndorseason 2, episode 9, Bix left Cassian a note saying she couldn’t be the reason he left the Rebellion, and she was effectively going into hiding until the fight was over and they could be reunited. Initially, this seemed to be caused by Cassian’s declaration that he would leave the Rebellion for her, but we now know her pregnancy was at least another factor in this choice. Now,this story arc has led to one of the most ridiculousStar Warstheories I’ve ever heard: that Bix’s baby is Poe Dameron.
Poe Dameron Was Born AFTER The Battle Of Yavin
The Timeline Just Doesn’t Add Up
We already know thatPoe Dameron was born after the Battle of Yavin, which means, based onAndorseason 2’s place in theStar Warstimeline, it is impossible for Poe Dameron to be Bix Caleen and Cassian Andor’s baby.Andorends just before the beginning ofRogue One: A Star Wars Story. In fact, in theAndorseason 2 finale, we see Cassian taking off for what will be the journey that leads to his death.Rogue One, in turn, leads directly intoA New Hope.
It is impossible for Poe Dameron to be Bix Caleen and Cassian Andor’s baby.
Although we only get the briefest glimpse of Bix’s baby in the finale, it’s clear thatthe baby is already several months old by then. Given that, it just makes no sense whatsoever that this baby could be Poe Dameron. Even beyond this unavoidable timeline era, though,Star Warshas also provided information about Poe’s canonical parents—and they aren’t Bix and Cassian.
We’ve Known Poe’s Parents Since 2015
Star Wars Confirmed Who Poe Dameron’s Parents Were 10 Years Ago
Beginning in 2015, the canonJourney to Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Shattered Empirecomic book series revealed so much Dameron’s parents, Shara Bey, a Rebel pilot, and Kes Dameron, a sergeant for the Rebel Alliance. Already, online, there’s been chatter about the possibility that Poe was adopted by Kes and Shara. Even if we ignore the obvious conflicts based ontheStar Warstimeline(which we shouldn’t), this plotline would make absolutely no sense.
This story arc would require Bix giving up the baby or, worse, her death, neither of which is congruent with what we saw inAndor. It’s clear Bix had gone to Mina-Rau to protect her baby, so it would be nonsensical for her to then give the baby to Shara and Kes for any reason. If Bix died, it would entirely undermine her character inAndor. There’s no reason to kill Bix, and seemingly the only payoff would be giving Poe a biological link to Bix and Cassian, which, simply put, wouldn’t be worth it.
Andor Was Trying To Expand The Galaxy, Not Shrink It
Having This Familial Link Would Absolutely Cheapen Andor
Even if this possibility did make sense, making Poe Dameron the biological son of Cassian Andor and Bix Caleen would undermine the purpose ofAndor. This show stands out amongStar Warsmovies and TV showsbecause it isn’t focused on the Jedi, the Sith, the Force, orthe Skywalker family tree. It is meant to depict the real-life experiences of everyday people living under a fascist regime, and, as the show has now concluded, it’s safe to say that’s what it did.
Taking this brilliant boots-on-the-ground show and giving it a direct link to the Skywalker Saga would undoubtedly cheapenAndor, which is so much less than the show deserves. As it stands,Andoris easily amongStar Wars’best TV shows, if not the single best, and it would be a true shame to see that undermined. While the discourse will likely persist all the same,Star Warshas already confirmed thatPoe Dameronis not the baby we see at the end ofAndorseason 2.
