With the release of its latest update,NEXT,No Man’s Skyseeks to win back its disgruntled fan base and attract new players, and so far reviews are encouraging. Today, however, Hello Games is scrambling to correct course after being made aware of an issue where players are losing their save files after downloading the big update. Fortunately, the team swiftly released Patch 1.51 for PC, which addresses the issue, and a patch for consoles is currently incoming.

AffectedNo Man’s Skyplayers across all platforms are reporting that upon downloading the update and loading their saved game, they appear at the very beginning of the game on a new planet, unable to load any previous save files. Curiously, hours played are reportedly intact, but all progress is lost regardless.

Kotaku originally reported on the problem after a staff member lost his PS4 save data. Fortunately, producer Paul Tamayo was able to recover the lost data using a backup stored on a USB drive, but other players haven’t been so lucky. PC players were able to find a workaround until Hello Games' released the hotfix, however console players are thus far left waiting for a solution.

Sean Murray reassured PC and console players that a solution was in the works via Twitter. Along with fixing the save file problem, Patch 1.51 addresses a host of issues including system crashes, memory leaks, and miscellaneous technical issues. Additionally, the patch adds a tutorial mission that shows players how to restore their old base.

WithNo Man’s Sky Nextalready substantially improving the game’s overall reception, it would be a shame if technical issues were to plague the experience and dampen that progress. Only a day after the update’s release, Sean Murray tweeted his delight atNo Man’s Sky’sgraduation from “Mostly Negative” to “Mixed” Steam reviews.
