Wizards of the Coast released new Unearthed Arcana material forDungeons and Dragons. The game developer is bringing two new playtesting classes to the roleplay table — one for the Bard and one for the Warlock.
Dungeons and Dragonsis a constantly evolving roleplaying game filled with creatures such as dragons, zombies, and spirits. While the game can be very focused on fantastical aspects like the fae and sprites,undead beings inDungeons and Dragonsare also significant to many stories that Dungeon Masters can set up for their players. Wizards of the Coast is capitalizing on these elements to breathe new life into two Charisma-based classes.

The new material introduced the College of Spirits subclass to the Bard as a sort of spiritual medium type of character.Dungeons and DragonsBardsascribing to this college can use Spiritual Focuses such as crystal balls or tarokka decks to cast their spells, which increase their damage or healing at level six. Bardic Inspiration for this subclass can be used differently as well, gaining different affects that a player can obtain by rolling on a table of various Spirit Tales the player can use to inspire their teammates with.
Unearthed Arcana is also making a new patron available to Warlocks. With powers bestowed on a character by anUndead patron, players can gain a Form of Dread, which gives a player temporary hit points, immunity to being frightened, and the ability to frighten others if they fail a wisdom save once per turn. At higher levels, the player has access to Mortal Husk, which allows them to explode their character’s body upon reaching zero hit points before returning to life with their body and all their possessions intact.
With such interesting new utilization of undead in character classes, players will have fun new options to playtest in their next campaign. Though Warlocks already had an Undying patron, the Undead version gives a different side to the death these patrons focus on.
