Summary
Jet Force Geminiis an unexpected addition to Nintendo Switch Online, as it was not previously announced as a part of the lineup for the subscription service. While this addition was announced near the end of November, Nintendo didn’t nail down a solid release window for gamers in the West. Meanwhile, Japanese Nintendo fans got a surprising new Nintendo Switch Online app that was for “adult-only” games. This was connected to the re-release ofJet Force GeminiandGoldenEye 007, as those two games were released with a Z-Rating in Japan. The release of the app allows fans in the region to playJet Force Geminiahead of the rest of the world, with some reporting the game’s widescreen mode being broken in this re-release.
Firstspotted by Nintendo World Report, those who have access tothe Japanese-exclusive adults-only Nintendo Switch Online appcan playJet Force Geminiright now, but with a saddening caveat regarding how its widescreen mode works. In the Nintendo Switch Online re-release, if the game is set to widescreen, the mode doesn’t properly scale the image. While it makes the 4:3 aspect ratio disappear, the image becomes letterboxed rather than stretched vertically to fill the entire screen.
This is rather disappointing for some fans, asJet Force Geminiwas one of Rare’s games that could support both a 4:3 and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio at the time of its release. This is especially strange sincethe Nintendo Switch Online version ofGoldenEye 007, also developed by Rare, was scaled properly when re-released, with the widescreen mode being the default option.
While this bug could theoretically be circumvented by adjusting a player’s television settings while playing the game docked, this isn’t an option when playing the game in handheld mode. Some gamers hope that this bug forJet Force Geminiwill be fixed before the game is added to the North American version of theNintendo Switch Onlineservice. For the time being, if players wish to play the game early via the Japanese region’s app, then keeping the game at a 4:3 aspect ratio is the best way to play.
