FortnitemeetsMetal Gearin the latest addition to the fan-favoriteMetal Gearseries:Metal Gear Survive. Consideringthe beta opened up yesterdayand the game is set to release next month, more news seems to be opening up about the latest game. To that effect, the game has received a new trailer showing off its co-op gameplay.
In the trailer, a group of soldiers quickly begin building up a base with several fortifications and traps, with creatures quickly closing in. Well-placed traps, as well as effective firearms and melee weapons, are highlighted, but clearly, they can backfire as one player falls due to a set trap. Character models and several types of creatures (armored, bulbous-bodied, and more) are also highlighted. At the end of the trailer, a hostile Metal Gear appears, seemingly connecting the zombie-based game with its series roots.
Metal Gear Survive, which hasn’t had the best reception since its announcement, has an atypical approach to the long-standing series, with the no longer affiliated series creator Hideo Kojima stating, “Metal Geargames are about political fiction and espionage. Where do zombies fit in with that?” While his comments seem likely to affect the game at release, the trailer does make the game seem fun; check it out here:
However, Kojima’s comment isn’t the only source of negative fan reception; some of the game’s features, such as itsinclusion of microtransactions and a necessary internet connection, aren’t being well received. WhileMetal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Painalso included microtransactions, it was before recent microtransaction-related debacles. The in-game currency known as Coins can be used to buy various in-game boosts, but the full implementation and extent of the Coins aren’t yet known.
For gamers interested in theMetal Gear Solidspin-off, asingle-player gameplay trailerhas also recently been revealed. Whether gamers intend to play the single-player campaign, enjoy co-op, or its multiplayer feature,Metal Gear Surviveseems to offer a little bit of everything, even if it’s not in the traditionalMetal Gearstyle.
Metal Gear Surviveis set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Jul 23, 2025.
