Soon after it was originally announced for the PS5 back in 2020, it was revealed thatQuantum Errorwould no longer be a PS5 exclusive, with versions coming for both Xbox Series X/S and PS4. The announcement of the cancelation ofQuantum Error’s PS4 version was made by the official profile of the game on social media. According to TeamKill Media, the devs had originally hoped that they would be able to pull off a PS4 version of the game, but this endeavor simply required too much downgrading and changing of assets to work properly. In the post, TeamKill Media affirmed that there’s no way to make the game run at a smooth 60 FPS rate on PS4 without sacrificing too much, mostly due to the slower HDD speed. Considering that the team started the development with the PS5 version in mind, last-gen consoles won’t have the same power and, even if the team spent a lot of time working on the PS4 version, it would still fall short of their expectations.
This unfortunate news is not the first time that the team has been unhappy with non-PS5 platforms. A few days ago, TeamKill Media also revealed that theXbox version ofQuantum Errorwould potentially have loading screenswhereas the PS5 version would not.
While the developers have affirmed thatQuantum Erroris near the end of development, the title still does not have an official release date. So, gamers may need to play otherhorror games available for PS5to tide them over. Additionally, TeamKill Media also disclosed in the comments of the post that there are no plans for the PC launch yet, and they don’t know when the port will be done.
Quantum Erroris currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
