Bouchard announced that unlikeThe Simpsons,Bob’s Burgerswill “never do a flash-forward”episode where viewers see what happens to the Belcher family in the future. This also meansit’s unlikely the characters will ever age, meaning Tina will remain an awkward tween always on the cusp of high school. That wasn’t the onlyBob’s Burgersnews from the SDCC.

Bob’s Burgersseason 16 will start with a flashback episode, detailing the singularday on which Tina was born and Bob opened his restaurant. This episode will address a major fan question stemming fromThe Bob’s BurgersMovie. In the pilot episode, we’re told Bob and Linda worked on their wedding night. However, the movie showed that Linda was pregnant before the restaurant opened.

As exciting asBob’s Burgersseason 16 sounds, six weeks is a long time to wait for new episodes. Luckily, there are a few other animated shows that hit the spot while you wait.

5The Great North

The most obvious show to watchif you’re missingBob’s BurgersisThe Great North. Another family sitcom,The Great Northwas created byBob’s BurgerswritersWendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin. They are known for writing some iconicBob’s Burgersepisodes, such as “Bob Fires The Kids” and “Boyz 4 Now.” It also has the same animation style asBob’s Burgers.

LikeBob’s Burgers,The Great Northfollows a family who loves each other and often find themselves in crazy situations. What makesThe Great Northunique is the setting; as you may have guessed from the title, the show takes place in Alaska. This gives the series the opportunity for some interesting plot lines that wouldn’t make sense inBob’s Burgers.

For example,The Great Northexplores multi-day blackouts, the Alaska Permanent Fund, and the characters' interactions with wildlife, to name a few situations. The Great Northalso features slightly older characters thanBob’s Burgers, with siblings Judy and Ham being in high school. This lets the show explore more serious romantic relationships than Tina will have.

The Great Northis a feel-good show, generally lacking cringe-comedy. It’s perfect for anyone who wants an easy, positive show to watch and laugh at. Plus, it’ll make you fall in love with Alaska (or, at least, the animated version of it).

4Central Park

If you love theBob’s Burgersanimation but want something a little more plot-heavy (and a lot more musical), check outCentral Parkon Apple TV+. The show has the same animation style asBob’s BurgersandThe Great Northas it was created by Bouchardand others. However, the show has some notable differences from its predecessors.

LikeBob’s BurgersandThe Great North,Central Parklargely centers around a family. This time, our main characters live in the unique location of Central Park itself, as Owen, the father, is the park’s manager. WhereCentral Parkdiffers is the show’s main plot line.

Unlike other animated sitcoms that are purely episodic,Central Parkfollows one important plot line throughout every episode. An extremely wealthy woman,Bitsy, wants to buy Central Park and turn it into a real estate investment. Owen’s wife Paige, a journalist, spends the series trying to uncover Bitsy’s plan and stop it from happening.

WhileBob’s Burgersis known for its original songs,Central Parktakes the concept of a musical TV show to a whole new level. Each episode includes approximately four original songs.Notable songwriters for the series include Sara Bareilles, Meghan Trainor, Darren Criss, and more.Central Parkis great for theBob’s Burgersviewerwho equally loves music.

3BoJack Horseman

To be fair,BoJack Horsemanis not an underrated show. The Netflix tragicomedy serieswas nominated for three Creative Arts Emmy Awards and won three Writers Guild of America Awards during its six-season run. BoJack Horsemantakes place in a world where animals and humans live side-by-side. The title character, voiced by Will Arnett, is a washed-up 90s sitcom star who is forced to work with a ghostwriter, voiced by Alison Brie. However,BoJack struggles to finish the book and maintain his relationships due to his substance abuseand mental health struggles.

BoJack Horsemanwill appeal to theBob’s Burgersfan who loves the heartfelt episodes, such as “The Amazing Rudy” and “The Plight Before Christmas.” Whilethe show is absolutely a comedy and is filled with laugh-out-loud funny moments in almost every episode,BoJack Horsemandoesn’t shy away from tough topicslike addiction, sexism, trauma, and more.
