Having received anear-perfect review score from Famitsu, the hype is high forMonster Hunter World. The game is set to launch on January 26 for consoles, but anyone hoping to jump into its online features on day one should be prepared to download an update that is set to add some important features.
As explained by producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, the day one patch forMonster Hunter Worldwill activate the game’s online multiplayer features, as well as add Gallery Mode. In Gallery Mode, players can re-watch cut-scenes in case they want to relive the game’s story after the credits roll.
Online multiplayer and Gallery Mode are great and all, but the real draw of the day one patch is the addition of poogies. For those that are unfamiliar with theMonster Hunterfranchise, poogies are adorable pet pigs that players can interact with when they’re not too busy killing giant monsters. However, poogies inMonster Hunter Worldwill have expanded functionality that will make them more useful than usual.
InMonster Hunter World, players can actually pick up their poogies and carry them around with them. While holding a poogie, the controller will vibrate when players are near treasure, making the little pigs very useful for finding hidden items in the game world. Once a hidden item has been located, the poogie will retrieve it for the player and automatically send it back to their item box.
Since poogies have been a series staple for quite some time, it’s nice to see them represented inMonster Hunter World. However, it remains to be seen how much the addition of poogies, Gallery Mode, and online play will tack on to the game’s file size.Monster Hunter World’sfile size is surprisingly smallgiven the scope of the game, but even so, gamers with slower Internet will want to plan for launch day accordingly.
Monster Hunter Worldlaunches on January 26 for PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC release planned for later this year.
