Nintendo Switch Online is the paid online subscription service for Nintendo Switch. It is primarily used to give players access to features like online play, save data backups, and access to select legacy games on consoles including SNES, Nintendo 64, and Game Boy. It also lets players spend Platinum Points gained through My Nintendo to unlock a number of player icons based on Nintendo properties such as last month’s line ofNintendo 64 Nintendo Switch Online player icons.

Twitter user RevolutionRidly may have insight into what new icons fans can expect. They revealed that Japanese Nintendo Switch players appear to have gotten an email teasing the release of Nintendo Switch Online icons based onMetroid Prime Remasteredwhich include Samus, Meta Ridley, and Samus' Gunship. They state that these icons will be available from March 3 to March 17 and could potentially release across two waves. This would be the second piece ofMetroid Prime Remasteredcontent that fans can obtain using Platinum Points, the first of which being aMy Nintendo contest that gives fans the chance to win aMetroid Prime Remasteredjacket.

The excitement surrounding theMetroid Primeseries is reaching an all-time high with the release ofMetroid Prime Remastered, rumors of the other games coming to Switch, and the increasingly long wait forMetroid Prime 4. Some of this excitement has been dampened due toAmazon pre-orders ofMetroid Prime Remasteredbeing delayedon top of the game being hard to find at retailers.
