AlthoughMetro Exoduswas never given a specific 2018 release date, most expected the post apocalyptic title from THQ Nordic to release before the end of the year. Unfortunately, that projection is no longer in the cards, as the developer has announcedMetro Exoduswill release in Q1 2019.
News of theMetro Exodus2019 release comes courtesy of THQ’s financial results, which were shared via press release. Sinceacquiring Deep Silver parent company Koch Media, THQ Nordic has been more public facing, and so financial outlooks like today’s will be more commonplace. That also means the company needs to discuss when it plans to release major products, so that investors know what to look forward to.
Ostensibly, this is a delay forMetro Exodus, but one that many could have seen coming. Since the official reveal ofMetro Exodusat Microsoft’s E3 2017 Press Conference, there hasn’t been much shown of the game or many details revealed. Most expected the game to have a big showing at E3 2018, but that may no longer be the case given the news.
Metro Exoduswill pick up about 3 years after the events ofMetro 2033and 2 years after 2033’s follow-up,Last Light. Players will once again take control of Artyom, a resistance fighter in analternate version of Russiathat has been decimated by nuclear fallout.
The Metro games have always been known for a stunning attention to detail andMetro Exoduslooks to be no exception. The demo 4A Games showed at E3 last year was a major highlight of the press conferences, despite so little being known about the game. Hopefully, even if Exodus is a 2019 release, the developers give fans a little more information in the coming months.
For those curious, THQ Nordic’s other major releases,BiomutantandDarksiders 3, were not given any firm release dates. Both titles are expected in 2018, though, and THQ Nordic did not say otherwise.
Metro Exodusreleases Q1 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
