This year’s PlayStation Experience event was light on surprises, with the exception of one announcement that is sure to please longtime PlayStation fans. As announced at the PlayStation Experience 2017, the classic PS1 gameMediEvilis being completely remastered forPlayStation 4, with support for 4K visuals.
TheMediEvilPlayStation 4 remaster was announced with a short teaser trailer and very little in the way of details. At the time of this writing, we don’t know when fans can expect theMediEvilremaster, if it will also include content from the second game in the series, and what other improvements there may be besides 4K visuals. While the teaser trailer may not reveal much about the game, though, it should still be enough to excite fans of the long-dormant franchise.

As exciting as this brief teaser trailer forMediEvilis, it would have been nice if it offered fans a little more concrete details. At this point, we don’t even know the studio working on the game, and we can only guess as to other improvements that it may be bringing to the table. The trailer does promise more details “soon,” but it’s possible we won’t see the game again until Sony’s E3 2018 press conference in June.
One thing we know for sure is that Guerrilla Cambridge, the studio that worked on the originalMediEvil, its sequel, and the 2005 PSP remake, will not be working on the remaster. That’s becauseSony shut down Guerrilla Cambridgeearlier this year, not long after the studio launchedRIGS: Mechanized Combat Leaguefor PlayStation VR to mixed reviews.
Regardless of which studio is working on theMediEvilPS4 remaster, here’s hoping that the team can do it justice. Thehuge success ofCrash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogyhas proven that there is an appetite for PS1 remasters, and ifMediEvilon PS4 is successful as well, we may see even more PS1 classics updated for current-generation hardware.
