TheMCUjust released its latest show,Eyes of Wakanda, on Disney+. It followsIronheartasthe latest MCU showandYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manas the latest Marvel Studios Animation production. Giventhe MCU’s track recordwith its animations, the new series has a high bar to clear.
MCU animations are fairly rare but often celebrated, withX-Men ‘97being a stand-out example. UnlikeX-Men ‘97,Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,andWhat If…?, however,Eyes of Wakandatakes placein the same continuity as the mainline MCU’s Earth-616.
Nevertheless, most of the anthology series’ episodes take place in the past, stretching back as far as 1260 BC. It focuses on Wakanda’s elite Hatut Zeraze forces, also known as War Dogs, and their special missions to retrieve vibranium artifacts around the globe.

So far, one of the main criticisms leveled atEyes of Wakandais that it is too short, withall four episodes of the anthology series being immediately available to stream. Each episode is also around 30 minutes long, meaning the whole series can be viewed in the same amount of time as the average MCU movie.
What You Need To Know Before Watching Eyes Of Wakanda
Eyes of Wakandais largely a standalone series, althoughit is worth watching bothBlack PantherandBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverto gain a deeper understandingof the wider context. Both movies delve into Wakandan culture and the importance of Vibranium, as well as its versatile uses and centrality tohighly advanced Wakandan tech.
This advanced tech features heavily throughout the anthology series, proving that Wakanda has been light years ahead of contemporary cultures for millennia. Interestingly,Eyes of Wakandadoesn’t focus on the nation’s leaders and the Black Panther mantle holder, centering instead on the nation’s military and special operations around the world.
Given thatEyes of Wakanda’s episodes take place centuries before the events of the mainline MCU, it is unlikely that it will have much of an impact onfuture MCU installments, despite taking place in the same continuity. Still, beforeBlack Panther 3hits theaters, the anthology show helps add depth to Wakanda’s history.
