As Peter Parker seems to take a break from his crime-fighting duties, theBlack Catsteps in to pick up his slack, giving one of the hero’s most iconic allies an all-new purpose in Earth-616 moving forward.

Felicia may havemore uncommon and underrated superpowersthan her webslinging counterpart, but it looks like her new series signals bad luck for the rest of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. As Black Cat levels up as a superhero, and actually cares more about fighting crime, she must be prepared for all the danger that comes with being the neighborhood’s friendly defender.

Black Cat is already crossing paths with the Lizard, Tombstone, and Sandman, and things are only going to get messier as the story unfolds. While there have been manyalternate versions of Black Cat’s storywhere she’s gone good, she’s usually had Spider-Man’s support on Earth-616. At least, Peter’s been there to handle crime-fighting while Felicia does her own thing.

Comic book fans know Black Cat, but her new solo superhero adventures could still shine a new light on the infamous cat burglar after decades of lore. Black Cat has one of thebest relationships with Spider-Man in the comics, but their occasional partnership is taking the backseat for her exciting solo venture. Events in the currentAmazing Spider-Manseries are dealing with his strange side of the story, and Felicia is still able to flourish in the superhero space while Peter deals with his personality adjustment.

It’s a shame for Peter and Felicia’s relationship to be on the rocks, but Spidey’s personal problems give Black Cat an opportunity to prove herself as a powerful NYC crime-fighter without any of his help.
