Team Ninja’sNioh 2is still trying to find its footing when it comes to balance and is hoping to achieve that goal through a number of post-release patches. Thus far, the game has already received updates focused on nerfing certain enemies and buffing a few character attributes, but the latest patch puts a lot of emphasis onYokai abilitiesand mainly tries to make them stronger.

One of the new features forNioh 2is the ability to collect Yokai Cores from the monsters that the player defeats. Each of these Yokai cores include a set of stats and a specific ability that replicates one of that Yokai’s signature attacks.

Yokai Cores are key tofurther emphasizing a player’s buildbut those abilities are very helpful too, but not all of them are equal. In fact, some of the Yokai abilities were downright disappointing, and so Team Ninja is hoping to address that with this latestNioh 2update.

A lot of the changes are focused on making the Yokai abilities easier to land on enemies or more powerful overall. Although we haven’t tested all of the Yokai abilities, it was clear in our playthrough of the game (readGame Rant’sNioh 2review) that some were both more useful and consistent when it came to dealing damage. Others would appear, completely whiff their target, and then the player is left with a partially drained Anima bar.

In addition to the Yokai ability buffs, the patch also fixes a number of bugs that were hindering player progress or impacting the way that a feature is supposed to work. There is a lot to cover in the patch notes, and many players are not even going to notice the changes. But those that do want to experiment can look at the below Yokai abilities and know that they are a little more reliable.
