The house inThis Is Usused to be owned by Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof, both esteemed actors who starred inBuffy the Vampire SlayerandAngelas Willow Rosenberg and Wesley Wyndam-Price. The couple married in 2003 and bought their Los Angeles house in 2016 for $7.95 million. OnSirius XM’sThe Michelle Collins Showin 2021, Hannigan revealed thatThis Is Usused her home as a shooting location for the sixth and final season. She opened up about being hesitant to allow anything to shoot there as it was widely used by studios prior to moving in, stating:
The people we bought our house from, I don’t know if they ever lived here. I think they just rented it out for film shoots […] When we moved in we were like, “We will never do that. We know what productions do to locations.” I would say at least twice a month [we] get requests because the house is just known […] We were like, “If we are ever going to do it, we would do it for that show ‘cause it’s so good.”
Thankfully, the couple became open to the idea asThis Is Us’ director was their neighbor, making it easier to convince them to do it. It worked out great, given how gorgeous the house was and how some of the entire series' most emotionally powerful moments happened while there. Known as the Sherman Estate, the house was built in 2001and has been home to numerous shows and movies since then, most notably as an important location inFracture, starring Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling. Because of this, it is also referred to as “The Fracture House.” AlongsideFracture, some other notable projects that used it as a shooting location wereFun With Dick and Jane,CSI: Miami, andAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Alongside being a shooting location,the Sherman Estate is also an architectural marvel, as it was designed by renowned architect Peter Tolkin,who also designed the Sunglass House in Malibu and Saladang Garden restaurant in Pasadena. Given how beautiful the house and its grounds are, it’s easy to see why Hollywood would regularly choose it as a set, and its Encino location is perfect for the privacy often needed when it comes to these shoots.

Though Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof only bought the house in 2016, they sold it six years later for a staggering $16 million, as reported byTMZ. Thoughthere has been no word on any new movies or shows that have been shot there since they allowed it to be used forThis Is Us,it will likely pop up at some point in the future.
