Kaiju No. 8episode #15 was another surprisingly lackluster episode, but that doesn’t mean episode #16 and beyond aren’t worth getting excited about. The series seems to have taken a notable dip when it comes to writing, but hopefully, it won’t be long before things pick back up and get closer to season 1’s quality.
Kaiju No. 8episode #15 picked up where episode #14 left off, with Kafka unable to take on his Kaiju form, even with the threat of Kaiju No. 9’s reappearance. The danger posed to Kafka and his friends only grew with his inability to perform, but fortunately, it wasn’t long before everything worked out for all involved.

Kaiju No. 8 Episode 14 Review: Season 2 Is Still Wildly Uneven
Kaiju No. 8 Episode 14 In Review
Overall,Kaiju No. 8episode #14 was a much better episode than the season 2 premiere. While the premiere was mostly just setup for season 2’s story, episode #14 had a much stronger balance of fun character writing and stellar action, and that made it a far better representation ofwhat makes theKaiju No. 8anime so good.
That being said, not only does it feel too soon to have another plot centered around Kaiju No. 9, but Kafka’s inability to transform feels contrived and comes off as a cheap way to force drama. There will probably be explanations for both, but as of now, it feels like an embodiment of the worst parts ofKaiju No. 8’s writing.
Kaiju No. 8episode #14 was a notably uneven episode, but what it did do well made it fun to watch from start to finish, even more so than the season premiere.Kaiju No. 8is still proving to be one of thebest anime of summer 2025, but unfortunately, it’s gradually starting to not live up to that hype.
What Happened In Kaiju No. 8 Episode 15?
Produced by Production I.G; Directed By Haruo Okono
Kaiju No. 8episode #15, “The Strongest Division”, picked up with Kikoru and Kafka working together to defeat Kaiju No. 9. As they fought, Kikoru thought back to how her mother was one of the greatest soldiers in the Defense Force before she died in battle, compelling Kikoru to devote herself to becoming strong enough to uphold her legacy.
During their fight, Kikoru landed a big hit on Kaiju No. 9 and set Kafka up to finish it off. Unfortunately, Kafka once again failed to transform, and he finally understood why: the events of theKaiju No. 8season 1 finalemade him afraid of losing control of his powers and killing his friends.
Meanwhile, the other Kaiju No. 9 had gained an advantage overGen Narumidue to its high speed, but that was just temporary. After drawing out enough power from his suit, Narumi could activate his special contacts made from Kaiju No. 1, which let him see No. 9’s future movements, and that allowed Narumi to take the win.
Back with Kafka and Kikoru, Kafka’s inability to transform continued to cause problems, and it got to the point where Kikoru called Kafka out for thinking that his friends were that weak. Hearing that and seeing how Kikoru wouldn’t give up the fight made Kafka realize how stupid he was being, and he could finally transform into Kaiju No. 8.
Even with Kafka finally transformed, Kaiju No. 9 was confident it could win, but after the fight with Isao, Kafka was even stronger than before. With his new strength, Kafka easily overpowered Kaiju No. 9, and the episode ended with Kaiju No. 9’s apparent destruction at the hands of Kaiju No. 8.
Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Continues To Stumble
The Biggest Problems With Kaiju No. 8 Episode 15
Visually speaking,Kaiju No. 8episode #15 was probably one of the strongest episodes to date. Kafka and Narumi’s fights with Kaiju No. 9 were both incredibly stunning from start to finish, and that makes perfect sense when remembering episode director Haruo Okono’s history on projects likeHaikyu!!andYour Name.
Unfortunately, the writing suffered once again. While learning more about Kikoru’s past was great, the same can’t be said of Kafka’s arc about being unable to transform, as between the suddenness of it starting and how easy it was for him to get over it after one pep talk from Kikoru, the entire thing felt contrived from start to finish.
Even Narumi’s scenes have started to lose their appeal; while Narumi’s content is great, it’s gotten to the point that it’s far better than anything happening with Kafka, who’s supposed to be the main character, and the fact that Narumi’s scenes overshadow Kafka’s so much feels more distracting than engaging.
Kaiju No. 8is devolving into a show that uses fight scenes and visuals to distract from poor writing, and that’s disappointing to see after how good the early parts of the show were at balancing the two extremes. Hopefully, the rest of season 2 will improve on that, but unfortunately, things aren’t looking too good forKaiju No. 8.
Be sure to watchKaijuNo. 8episode #16 when it releases on Saturday, August 9.
