It’s hard to keep track of all theLike A Dragongames that come out, but this one is surprisingly easy to grasp. The “gaiden” part of the name should give it away, butthis is a side story that linksYakuza 6withLike A Dragon(2020), which also happens to star fan-favorite protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. The gist is that Kiryu faked his death and is now back in the mix as a secret agent. Yep, it’s aLike A Dragongame, alright.
Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name Is Worth Playing
Even If You’re Not Current With The Series
Even if you’re not an RPG fan, you’ll still get somethingout of this wild standalone tale. Although it hasplenty of references to older games within the same universe,it’s also very easy to glean what is happening from the general premise. Kiryu is a secret agent, and will meet all sorts of new characters in his quest to take down a new threat. Everything is explained insideGaidenitself, amid plenty of self-contained minigames and diversions that are par for the course for theLike A Dragonfranchise.
Really though, as someone who enjoys this series immensely, you’ll have a plain old good time running through the streets of Japan. The gorgeous and dense environments are characters themselves, but if you want to rush through and finish the story in a reasonable amount of time, you’re able to totally do that. SinceLike a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Nameis roughly 15 hours long story-wise (it is a side story after all), it’s a great PS Plus Extra addition that doesn’t overstay its welcome. This is especially enticing if you’re not a fan of the 40+ hourLike A Dragongames.
