Iain Glen plays one of the longest-surviving characters fromGame of Thrones, so when he was asked what his favorite scene in the entire show would be, he had many to choose from — and couldn’t even pick one. Thegroundbreaking epic fantasy TV showchronicles the political turmoil of Westeros, as various noble families vie for the infamous Iron Throne. However, asthe Lannisters and the Starksare busy with their war, another one is brewing, as Emilia Clarke’s iconic Daenerys Targaryen grows her army over the years and prepares to take back Westeros.

The bulk of Ser Jorah Mormont’s (Glen) time in the series is spent as Daenerys' advisor and protector, helping her with this campaign. Jorah begins as a spy, reporting on the Targaryens back to those in King’s Landing, but becomes committed to her cause. Despite her anger when she discovers the truth and Jorah’s unrequited feelings for her,Daenerys considers Jorah one of her closest friends, and the two have many fascinating scenes where he advises her during their travels.Interestingly, Glen said that all this traveling was his favorite part of the series, at the side of the Dragon Queen.

Iain Glen’s Favorite Game Of Thrones Scenes Are When Jorah & Daenerys Were Traveling

Daenerys Covers A Lot Of Ground In The First Few Seasons

Ahead of the eighth season, Iain Glen toldPeopleTV(retrieved viaEntertainment Weekly) that hisfavorite scenes fromGame of Throneswere those he spent on the move with Daenerys and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage). Check out his comments:

Daenerys, and being by her side, has always been kind of my strongest association, […] [Jorah and Daenerys] lived a very peripatetic existence, were always on the move. And that was a lovely thing. So I enjoyed all the various locations.

Before she truly set out to become a queen,Jorah traveled by Daenerys' side when she was a newly minted Khaleesi. In addition to frequently moving around with Dany as she acquires new legions and liberates historical slave cities, when Jorah is thrown out after his betrayal has been discovered, he endeavors to win back her favor by bringing the recently exiled Tyrion Lannister to her.

In addition to showing Jorah’s strengths and endurance, as well as his knowledge of the Dothraki people and other societies of Essos, these travels feature many strong character interactions as Jorah discusses the future with Daenerys or Tyrion. As he goes through his own character transformation,Jorah witnesses Dany becoming wiser and more assertive, from the time that she verbalizes that she inherently knows her brother will never reclaim the throne — implicitly saying that if it’s going to be someone, it has to be her. He is always frankly amazed by the things she accomplishes.

Glen’s Answer Proves He Was The Perfect Person To Play Game Of Thrones' Jorah

The Actor Embraced The Character Being Associated With Daenerys

Glen seems to have understood and embraced the idealized nobility of what Jorah is supposed to be doing for Daenerys, as knights in this world swear themselves to royalty, to always protect them. “Being by her side” is the “strongest association” of Jorah’s character.Jorah’s affection for Daenerys is somewhat controversial, as he has romantic feelings for her; she begins the series as a child, and he is always much older. This element was mitigated from the books' depiction; in the show, he is still in love with her, but always keeps his distance in this regard.

But Glen’s favorite scene(s) is well-chosen because it reflects a fondness for playing the character whose entire life is protecting the future queenand wanting to see her succeed. Jorah and Dany have a lot of great moments on the road, including and especially when she asserts her authority. Additionally, Glen’s response suggests that he also enjoyed how the story and the production moved to different locations. FilmingGame of Throneswas certainly difficult across the board because of the harsh terrains, but Glen weathered it because of how it made the story richer.

It Always Made Sense For Him To Go Down Fighting For Daenerys

Game of Thrones’divisive final seasonrushes through some deaths, although it may have always felt that way when it was the last chapter. However, for evident reasons, it always made sense for Jorah to die protecting his queen. Even if he had survived the series, he would have served Dany for the rest of his life, dying for her as he lived for her. Despite the problems with the Battle of Winterfell, the death of Daenerys' most loyal follower heightens the cost of this fight and brings the tenure of one of the most prominent faces ofGame of Thronesto an effective end.
