I’ve beaten every mainline game inThe Legend of Zeldaseries - 100%-ed most of them - and there’s still one sidequest I refuse to engage with. From the NES originalsto the all-time classicsto the modern transformations, I love just about everyZeldagame in its own unique way. Although it’s evolved immensely over the years, it’s kept at least one thing intact: its approach to exploration, which is immersive and satisfying no matter how many times you experience it.
I have a lot of patience forZelda: I do the most annoying mini-games and most time-consuming sidequests over and over again, pretty much every single time I replayOcarina of TimeorMajora’s Mask. I’ve even done all theshrines inBreath of the Wild. Butthere’s one sidequest I’ll never complete, simply because it quickly becomes a total waste of time - and it’s not even all that fun, either.
I’ve Never Found All The Korok Seeds In BOTW
Never Have, Never Will
No matter how much I play it,I’ll never find all the Korok seeds inBOTW. Part of the problem is that there are simply too many - 900 in total. Of course, they are tied to an important aspect of the game: the more Korok seeds you collect, the more swords, shields, and bows you can carry. But really, a couple hundred is more than enough to fill your inventory - your weapons break often enough that getting every available slot is overkill.
Korok seeds aren’t exactly hard to find - in fact, I’d arguemost of them are too easy. Whenever you see something that looks out of place, like a stone in a random spot, a ring of leaves in the water, or a pinwheel on top of a tree, it’s basically guaranteed to be a Korok seed. You quickly develop an eye for finding them, but there are just so many, and they’re so well spread out, that finding them all quickly becomes a chore.
Really,I think there are too many Korok seeds by design: you’re not actually meant to find them all. Having so many of them ensures you don’t need to go out of your way to unlock a sufficient number of inventory slots; you can easily pick up enough Korok seeds just by playing through the game normally. But there is a reward for finding them all, which makes locating all 900 a popular completionist task - albeit not one I have any interest in taking on.
Collecting All Korok Seeds Doesn’t Feel Worth It
Hestu’s Reward Does Nothing
If you do find all the Korok seeds inBOTW,you get a useless reward: Hestu’s Gift.It does absolutely nothing but sit in your inventory, and that’s not to mention that it looks like, and may actually be, a giant piece of Hestu’s own waste.
The reward forfinding all 1,000 Korok seeds inTears of the Kingdomis similar.
Of course, the gift is more symbolic than functional: since the Switch doesn’t support achievements, this is really just a substitute for them, a virtual trophy you may place on your virtual shelf. But really, by the time you’re done finding all 900 Korok seeds, it just doesn’t feel worth it. For these reasons, the Korok seeds inBOTWandTOTKremain the only kind of side quest inThe Legend of Zeldaseries I’ll never bother with.
