Throughout its three seasons,Will Trenthas never killed off one of its main characters, but I believe that’s about to change in season 4. The ABC police procedural series has featured its fair share of death, of course.Will Trentseason 3 even had two tragic deaths(Marco in episode 11 and Angie’s mother in episode 15) that greatly affected the characters.
Someone dies almost every episode ofWill Trent. However, their deaths rarely change the show’s trajectory because they typically originate from “case of the week” storylines. Following the events oftheWill Trentseason 3 finale, though,one of the crime drama’s biggest characters has one foot out the door,leading me to believe that they will die in season 4.
Why Amanda Could Likely Die After Getting Shot In The Will Trent Season 3 Finale
The Episode Ended With Amanda In A Coma
DuringWill Trentseason 3’s ending,Amanda was badly hurt, leaving her in critical condition ahead of season 4.The GBI’s Deputy Director took on a terrorist group alongside Angie, and while they were mostly successful in taking down most of the gunmen, one slipped through and shot Amanda in the chest. It’s not looking good for Amanda in season 4.

They rushed Amanda to the hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Afterward, she had yet to wake up, and the doctors said that the next 48 hours would be critical, preparing Will and co. for the worst. Given her state at the end of season 3,Amanda could very easily succumb to her woundsby the time the season 4 premiere rolls around.
It doesn’t help that Ormewood’s life is also hanging in the balance following theWill Trentseason 3 finale,and he’s much more likely to survive. He had a seizure, but Faith was there and called 9-1-1. Paramedics will probably be able to stabilize Ormewood. As for what will happen to him down the line (regarding his brain tumor), that’s up in the air. For now, though, he should be safe.
If he were to lose Amanda, I’m not sure if Will would be able to survive such a tragedy inWill Trent.
It would be a cop-out if both Amanda andOrmewood survived inWill Trentseason 4. The previous finale has viewers concerned about the two characters, and for good reason. The police procedural series has always had high stakes, and it shouldn’t stop now. If both of them pull through,Will Trentcould lose that credibility. Andif one of them is to die, it’ll likely be Amanda.
How Amanda’s Death Will Devastate Will In Will Trent Season 4
Amanda Has Been A Mother Figure To Will
Amanda’s death would absolutely crush Will.She has been the closest thing he has had to a mother since the day he was born (even though he wasn’t aware of that at the time). If he were to lose Amanda, I’m not sure if Will would be able to survive sucha tragedy inWill Trent.
During an interview withTVLine, co-showrunner Daniel T. Thomson spoke about Will and Amanda’s connection. He discussed the meaning behind the season 3 finale’s last scene (which featured Will at Amanda’s bedside in the hospital). Thomson said:
“I was really moved by how it turned out — when Will has to move from that hospital room with Angie, and Seth is there, and then he goes to Amanda. It’s this incredible reminder for everybody that this relationship [he has with Amanda] means more than ever. Thisisfamily. And in a world where you’re not sure what the next twist is going to be, and what adversity you’re going to face, like, God, you can’t afford to lose Amanda! That was one of the most powerful parts of the finale for me.”
Will went through so much inWill Trentseason 3.From breaking up with Angie to accidentally killing a young teenager, Will discovered a new low, which is saying a lot for him, given all the tragedy and pain he has endured since he was a kid. Consequently, as Thomson said, Will needs Amanda now more than ever.
So, grieving AmandainWill Trentseason 4might destroy Will. Or it could finally give him the push he needs to get his life together. Whatever the case, Amanda’s death would significantly affect Will and his character arc.
Amanda Plays A Big Role In The Show
Will isn’t the onlyWill Trentcharacterwho has a close bond with Amanda. His partner,Faith, also considers Amanda a mother figure,meaning the older woman’s death would have a great impact on her. The GBI would also have to replace her and find a new Deputy Director. To put things simply, Amanda’s death would shake things up forWill Trentseason 4, and I believe it’s going to happen.
ABC is holdingWill Trentseason 4 for midseason, meaning it won’t premiere until early 2026.
