Warning! This article contains spoilers for Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 3!Outlander: Blood of My Bloodseason 1, episode 3 ended with a surprising twist, and I’m desperate to see what Claire would think of the whole situation. Though we are only a few episodes into the prequel series,Blood of My Bloodhas already begun to make massive shifts to our initial understanding of Claire’s story. This is especially true in the way of Julia and Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s parents.

Near the beginning ofOutlander, it was established that Claire was orphaned when she was young, left to be raised by her archeologist uncle, Quentin Lambert Beauchamp (Uncle Lamb).Outlander: Blood of My Bloodrevealed in the very first episodethat Claire’s parents didn’t actually die, but instead traveled through time to the 18th century, just like their daughter would one day.

The surprises haven’t ended there, of course. TheOutlanderprequel also revealed that Julia Beauchamp was pregnant when she disappeared. It’s looking very likely that Claire has an 18th-century sibling that she never knew about. Still,Blood of My Bloodepisode 3 came with another big twist, since it ended with Claire’s mother climbing into bed with Jamie’s own grandfather.

InOutlander: Blood of My Bloodepisode 3, it became evident to Julia that she wouldn’t be escaping Castle Leathers anytime soon. This was a problem, since it would quickly become difficult to hide her condition. The maid, Davina Porter, was already onto her. So,Julia had to take drastic measures to ensure that her baby would be safe—she slept with Lord Lovat.

Outlander Season 7 Poster

This is the sort of twist that only a Romantasy series could pull off. Who would have ever thought when Claire met Jamie’s grandfather inOutlanderthat her own mother had a history with the old man? It would have been entirely unthinkable, especially since Julia was supposed to have died in the 20th century. Now,Blood of My Bloodhas changed everything.

Claire already hated Lord Lovat inOutlander, so I’m desperate to see what she would have thought of him had she known the whole truth. Of course, I don’t think she would have blamed Julia for her choice. Claire herself made similar decisions for the sake of those she loved. Still, were Claire ever to learn the truth, I’m sure she would have some follow-up questions, just like we do.

Julia’s Decision In Outlander: Blood Of My Blood Could Have Massive Consequences

Julia’s choice inOutlander: Blood of My Bloodhas some major implications forClaire’s story inOutlander. Julia decided to sleep with Lord Lovat so that she could claim that her baby was his bastard. This was the only way for her to ensure that Claire’s younger brother or sister wasn’t immediately thrown out into the cold upon its birth. However, this lie will come with consequences.

Jamie’s grandfather was notorious for fathering children with his housemaids. Brian Fraser is a prime example and is precisely who inspired Julia’s decision inOutlander: Blood of My Blood. Though sleeping with Lord Lovat will keep her child safe, the Laird is unlikely ever to let Julia and her child go, so long as he believes this lie. Claire’s sibling may always be considered a Fraser.

Though Claire has no idea inOutlanderthat she ever had a brother or sister, this could be a character that is already known to her. At the very least, Jamie should know this individual. He might have grown up considering this character an aunt or uncle, though they would have been only a bit older than him. It’s all rather mind-bending, and I truly hope thatClaire and Jamielearn the truth one day inOutlander.

Could Claire Ever Learn The Truth About Julia In Outlander?

What’s truly tragic about watchingOutlander: Blood of My Bloodis that we know Julia won’t achieve her goal of being reunited with Claire anytime soon. The last time we saw Jamie and Claire inOutlander, it was around 1778—about 60 years since the events ofBlood of My Blood. Claire is becoming an old woman, and she hasn’t seen her mother since the woman supposedly died.

Since it doesn’t appear that Julia ever returned to the 20th century, we must assume that she stayed in the past with her second child. By the events ofOutlander, she likely passed away.Blood of My Bloodwill eventually reveal precisely what happened to Claire’s parents, butthere is limited time for Claire to learn the truth in the centralOutlanderseries.

There’s only one more season left ofOutlander, but it’s perfectly possible that this final batch of episodes will see Claire learn the truth about her parents. She will already be on the hunt for information regarding her daughter, Faith, so other answers about family members could surface. Learning that Julia once slept with Jamie’s grandfather will be quite a shock, but I can’t help but hope I’ll see it on screen.
