Kyle MacLachlan is an absolute scene-stealer of an actor, and though this is certainly true withFallout, his performance in the video game series is reminiscent of an arguably better role he played inSex and the City. The actor first became a household name when he played FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper in David Lynch’s iconic series,Twin Peaks, and since then, MacLachlan has starred in tons of great movies and TV shows. IntheFalloutcast, he plays Hank MacLean, the seemingly wholesome and benevolent Overseer of Vault 33 who harbors a dark secret.

However, 22 years prior to lacing up the blue jumpsuit inFallout, MacLachlan had a prominent role as Trey MacDougal, Charlotte’slove interest inSex and the City, who would go on to be her first husband. Introduced in season 3, episode 7, “Drama Queens,” Trey instantly sweeps Charlotte off her feet — or, almost hits her with his cab. On the surface, he looks like Prince Charming, though his and Charlotte’s marriage is anything but a fairytale. AfterFallout’s explosive endingwhen Hank’s secret is revealed, I couldn’t help but think of Trey even further.

Kyle MacLachlan Played Another Character Who Seemed Perfect On The Surface In Sex And The City

Trey Kept Secrets Just Like Hank

When Charlotte meets Trey inSex and the City, she can’t believe her luck. After years of looking for her dream man — “I’ve been dating since I was 15, I’m exhausted! Where is he?!” — there he was. Trey is everything she ever wanted, as he’s a handsome WASPy doctor and a true gentleman.Just like Hank seemed like the perfect Overseer of Vault 33, Trey seemed like the perfect husband.

However, Trey also kept secrets. When a drunk Charlotte wants to go back on her decision to wait until marriage for her and Trey to consummate their relationship, he reveals to her that he has issues with erectile dysfunction. Of course, nobody should be judged for that, but it’s still a pretty big thing to hide from your future spouse. Had Charlotte not stumbled into his apartment, she might not have learned the truth until her wedding night, after they had already been married.

Hank’s daughter, Lucy’s “Okie-dokie!” catchphrase inFalloutis reminiscent of Trey’s “Alrighty!” inSex and the City.

Though he may not be entirely self-aware about it,Trey also isn’t upfront about how much he lets his mother, Bunny, domineer over his life. Charlotte quickly learns that her mother-in-law takes up more space in her marriage than even she does. While that’s not quite as horrific as learning that your father lied about a nuclear apocalypse and literally dropped a bomb on your mother, it’s still disconcerting — especially when Trey refuses to see what a terrible husband he’s being. But whileHank looks to be an out-and-out villain, Trey isn’t all bad.

Though he loses major points for refusing to put his wife above his mother in his and Charlotte’s marriage, Trey comes through in the end. Trey may not be willing to give Charlotte the family and life she wants, but he does support her dreams. He proves this when he poses with her for theHome & Gardenphotoshoot despite them having split up. He also gives Charlotte the apartment despite Bunny’s protests. To be fair, we’ve only seen Hank in twoFalloutepisodes, but I hope he’s given a bit more complexity à la Trey inFalloutseason 2.

Will Kyle MacLachlan Pop Up In The Sex And The City Sequel Series?

He Turned And Just Like That Down Once, But The Door Is Still Open

With theSex and the Citysequel seriesAnd Just Like Thatstill going strong with season 3, we’re seeing all sorts of characters from the girls' pasts pop up, from Bitsy von Muffling to the forgotten Susan Sharon. Since so many ofAJLT’sSex and the CityEaster eggs are people, many of us couldn’t help but wonder if Charlotte’s ex-husband would ever return. However, Kristin Davis revealed in her podcast,Are You a Charlotte?, thatMacLachlan was approached about making a cameo appearance, and he turned it down.MacLachlan addressed not returning toAJLTtoPeople:

“I think it would be really fun to return, yeah, I do. They had reached out. I just felt that the idea that they had — I wanted a little bit more to it. I wanted the relationship that we had to be a little deeper. Maybe they’ll come back with another idea. I’d be game.”

Honestly, MacLachlan’s reasoning is fair — he’s an in-demand actor, so if he doesn’t feel like a project is worth his time, he shouldn’t do it. However, this means that, while a Trey MacDougal return is possible, it’s unlikely because there really isn’t a place for him in the storywith Charlotte happily married to Harry.

Interestingly,Trey was mentioned by name inAnd Just Like Thatwhen Charlotte reveals that she tried to have some kind of friendly relationship with him, but he wasn’t interested. Ever the loyal friends, the girls respond, “His loss.” But really, less Kyle MacLachlan on our screens isourloss. So, Mr. MacLachlan, if you’re reading this, please reconsider returning toAnd Just Like That… alrighty?
