Season 3 ofMarvel Rivalshas only been out for a few days now, but some fans are discovering one Duelist (not Wolverine) is suddenly too strong, despite that character not receiving any changes going intoMarvel RivalsSeason 3. The new season brought Phoenix into the game along with adjustments for several characters. It seems like those adjustments have inadvertently made this character a menace for some players, especially if you play a Strategist character.
In a Reddit post byOptimal-Ride5661, fans are discussingthe current state of Black Pantherand the sudden increase in his ban rate in competitive play. The post included a video compilation of clips of Black Panther quickly taking out several characters, including Luna Snow, Cloak and Dagger, and Star Lord.Reylo-Wanwalkersummed up Black Panther’s status and future with:“He’s Getting Nerfed To The Ground.”
Black Panther Is Terrorizing Marvel Rivals Players
Even Though He Didn’t Get Any Changes For Season 3
Surprisingly,Black Panther has never been considered a top-tier characterinMarvel Rivals. He’s harder to play than most players seem to realize, and getting caught near the enemy team with any of his abilities on cooldown is usually a death sentence, which happens fairly often sinceBlack Panther is a melee-focused character.Ok_Hedgehog6502argues that the devastating presence of Black Panther has to do with audio issues, writing:"…foot steps can’t be heard from the front."
From theSeason 2 ban stats, Black Panther was often banned in the Gold and Platinum ranks, buthewas not usually banned at higher ranks, with teams focusing more on banning Spider-Man and Wolverine. Black Panther also did not get any adjustments when Season 3 launched, but it seems like the audio (which could be a glitch) is giving Black Panther players an advantage so far this season.
Our Take: Black Panther Is Good, But There Are More Problematic Heroes
Wolverine Is Arguably The Most Overpowered Character Now
Somehow, despite tons of fan complaints,Wolverine got a powerful new team-up ability with Phoenixfor Season 3, which has made him even stronger and arguably theforgotten character of Season 3that desperately needs a nerf. Wolverine can shred Vanguards' life pools in just a few seconds, and coupled with his high mobility tools, Wolverine can be a nightmare to deal with, resulting in him getting banned from almost every competitive match.
The game balance forMarvel Rivalshas been in question since the game released, with almost every character feeling strong, and Black Panther is no different. On paper, he can be extremely oppressive, but as a melee character, he can get countered by long-range characters and requires more tactical play. He’s strong, as is almost every other character inMarvel Rivals, but with so many powerful characters, the game is clearly focused on fun instead of being competitively balanced.
