The show will allegedly aim to create an elevated continuation and expansion on theHellraisermythos and will not be a remake of the original films. Instead, it will expound and extrapolate on what has come before it, treating Pinhead’s previous stories as canon to build upon. Originally human,Pinhead was transformed into a creaturethat now resides in an extradimensional realm. Alongside his fellow Cenobites, they are able to cross over to Earth through a puzzle box to harvest human souls.

TheHellraiserfranchise includes 10 feature films alongside several books, comics, and an unreleased video game. It all stemmed from Barker’s novella,The Hellbound Heart. The first movie in the series, simply titledHellraiser, was released back in 1987. It was written and directed by Barker himself and introduced Pinhead and the Cenobites to a whole generation of horror fans across the globe. Despite HBO’s small screen plans for the franchise, there is also a separate, unrelatedHellraisermovie in development.

Hellraiseris currently in development at HBO.
