The popular multiplayer game mode SWAT is now officially playable in matchmaking forHalo: Combat Evolved, as featured in theMaster Chief Collection. The mode is only temporarily available, however, as it will likely be phased out as soon asCombat Evolved’sweekly game mode rotation switches on the first of April.

As noted by Tyler Davis, community support at developer 343 Industries, this is SWAT’sdebut inCombat Evolvedand its matchmaking. Previously, anyone who wanted to play SWAT in the originalHalohad to download a custom, fan-made game mode and gather a large enough group of friends to play with.

SWAT is a fairly simple, yet tough as nails, mode which has developed a dedicated following for its fast-paced,punishing spin onHalogameplay. Most notably, no one in a match of SWAT has shields, meaning all damage goes straight to health, being unhealable without finding a health pack. Players are usually equipped with a Magnum and some sort of precision rifle, with shots to the head being instantly lethal. Because of this, both death and kills are dealt extremely quickly in a game of SWAT, with positioning behind cover and split-second reflexes being more important than ever in the game mode’s hectic combat.

Team SWAT isavailable to be played on Battle Creek, Chill Out, Damnation, Derelict, Hang ‘Em High, Prisoner, and Wizard, while Free-For-All SWAT is available for all mentioned maps except for Wizard. While it’s only here for a short time, SWAT’s brief debut in matchmaking is an excellent opportunityforCombat Evolvedveteranswho haven’t experienced the mode yet, newcomers to the game, or anyone looking to bring their SWAT skills out of the originalHalo’sCustom Games and into online play.
