Gotham Knightsis not doing well in reviews unlike theBatman: Arkhamgames. It’s not all bad though as fans are seemingly happy with some of the game’s aspects such as the multiplayer and the story. This is a big step up from theBatman: Arkhamgames too as the city of Gotham feels more alive and it is now a looter RPG instead of a stealth-infused action game.

Bruce in Gotham Knights

There’s a lot more going on with the mechanics and features ofGotham Knightsoverall. Some of these things clash with the narrative in funny ways though if players truly think about it. There will be spoilers in the breakdown of the gameplay and clashing story elements.

7How Did No One Figure Out Bruce Was Gone?

There are so many unanswered questions regarding howBruce got resurrected. One, if he was buried in a cemetery then how did no one figure out his body was stolen? Two, even if the Batman family didn’t know this happened, all of the clues were right in front of them for the end twist.

Talia loved Bruce more than her father and wanted him to lead the League of Shadows instead. They drop the hint that Jason was brought back via the Lazarus Pit several times and yet no one suspected Talia might steal Bruce to bring him back. It’s an obvious goal for Talia that even the most basic detective could have figured out.

6Hiding The Court Of Owls

Apparently, theCourt of Owlshas existed within Gotham for centuries. Yet somehow they became very sloppy inGotham Knightsand left clues all over the place for the Batman family to find them. After exploring these places of note, it doesn’t seem like they were hiding that much. It’s a bit farfetched to think that no one, not even Batman, could figure out their secrets before the game takes place.

There were hundreds of members seen throughout the game between thugs and higher-ups. It is unreasonable to imagine a world where not a single member slipped up that they were part of a secret society until now. Overall, there are many plot holes involving the Court of Owls existing.

5“Secret” Identities

This is a concept that goes beyondGotham Knightsand it points out the flaws in all superhero games, comics, movies, and so on. A domino mask, like the one Batgirl wears, is not going to hide an identity. She barely wears anything to hide her face and hair and she doesn’t even disguise her voice like Batman.

Robin and Nightwing aren’t much better since they also don’t change their voices.Red Hood isthe only character who could plausibly go unnoticed outside of his costume. It’s not as silly as Superman though who barely changes at all, but that’s a problem for another day.

4Solo Vs Multiplayer Contradictions

It’s odd thatGotham Knightsgives players four choices for characters but onlyallows two-player co-op. It gets even stranger when considering how the plot revolves around who is chosen. For example, the final mission has the player dive into an old tomb which then brings them underground.

Eventually, they make it to a Lazarus Pit wherein Talia reveals she has brought Bruce back from the dead. What were the other three doing at that time? The same question could be asked going solo for a variety of missions but that is par for the course when it comes to dividing attention between multiple story possibilities in an RPG.

3Running Over Cars

It’s great that Gotham finally feels like a real city unlike theBatman: Arkhamgames where there was always an excuse as to why NPCs were gone. Players can now interact with normal NPCs, cops, and even vehicles. The problem with giving players freedom inan open-world cityexperience likeGotham Knightsis that they can mess with these aforementioned NPCs.

For example, players can pop wheelies and drive over cars without damaging them. It’s hard to believe that a motorcycle that is basically just a tank on two wheels would not at least smash a window or two by driving on top of another vehicle. Any NPC would presumably get mad at the idea of a hero driving over their vehicle whether they damaged it or not.

2Item Inconsistencies

Using bikes to get over cars is not the only item-based thing that doesn’t make sense inGotham Knights. How are villains dropping equipment for the Batman family to use such as tonfas,Batgirl’s weapon of choice? Also, how are players coming across fresh new suits in the wild?

It’s also hard to imagine that these heroes could carry materials on them so that they could craft new gear on the fly. This inventory inconsistency has plagued RPGs for many years. It’s not justGotham Knightsat fault and it’s not even a bad plot hole in the game unlike other entries on here. It’s just something silly to think about.

1Those Vents Sure Are Big

One final senseless thing aboutGotham Knightsrevolves around the vents. Ventilation systems in movies and games look like they are made for human-sized situations. The ultimatestealth action series,Metal Gear Solid, perhaps made vents iconic as far as video games go.

Getting through ducts, in reality, is not as easy andGotham Knightshas giant vents to crawl through. It’s a bit ridiculous considering no guards, like the Court of Owls, check these vents out regularly. If they did these guards would assuredly catch heroes sneaking around all of the time.
