Warning: SPOILERS forGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriageseason 1, episode 22, “Big Decisions.”
After theGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriageseason 1 finale, one plot hole left over fromThe Big Bang TheoryandYoung Sheldonnow feels more pronounced than ever. Given its premise, there was technically never any real need forGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriageseason 1to pay much attention to the flagship sitcom that launched the franchise. The series takes place so shortly afterGeorge Sr.’s death inYoung Sheldonthat it seems pretty far removed from anything the characters might go on to do as adults. But one detail complicates that notion.
In the season 1 finale, most of theGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriagecastfind themselves divided by whether Jim should sell the tire store. Fans ofThe Big Bang Theorymight immediately see where this is going, sinceit’s known from the flagship series that Georgie buys his own store and turns it into a major franchise. And while theGeorgie & Mandyseason 1 finale does set Georgie on that path, there are a couple of details that don’t make sense considering whatThe Big Bang Theoryalready established about Georgie’s future.
Georgie Blames Sheldon’s Expenses For The Extra Struggle In Founding Dr. Tire In TBBT
He Feels That Sheldon’s Germany Trip Wiped The Coopers’ Finances
In what turns out to be a great deal forJim and Audrey inGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriagebut a bum deal for the title characters,Jim spends most of the season 1 finale fighting himself over whether to sell his store to competitor Fred Fagenbacher. It seems obvious that Georgie will try to save the day by buying the store himself, but that recalls one of the primary reasons he gives for resenting his little brother when he’s first introduced inThe Big Bang Theory.
Georgie resents Sheldon over numerous things, such as the fact that he always looked out for Sheldon in high school without receiving any gratitude. But one of his big sources of contention comes from the fact thatthe Cooper family spent so much sending Sheldon to Europe that Georgie was forced to save up for the tire store on his own. He only has two days in the finale to acquire the money, so it’s naturally fascinating to see how he’ll earn enough cheddar to buy a store in that time. Sadly, theGeorgie & Mandyfinale takes another route.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Finale Contradicts Georgie’s TBBT Story
Mary Cooper Hardly Mentions Sheldon When Helping To Buy The Store
While casual viewers may consider theage difference between Georgie and Mandyto be one of the more problematic aspects of the show, long-time franchise buffs sometimes take far more issue with the sheer number of plot points fromThe Big Bang Theorythat the spinoffs seem to forget.Georgie buying Dr. Tire out of pocket has actually been a plot hole sinceYoung Sheldonsent the younger Cooper brother to Germany, largely because it’s established that the family didn’t pay for his studies as claimed inBig Bang.
InYoung Sheldon, the future physicist’s German studies are primarily financed by Grant Linkletter and Mary’s church. Mary does confess in theGeorgie & Mandyseason 1 finale that she often overlooks Georgie in favor of Sheldon, butshe makes it up to Georgie by offering her house as collateral so Georgie and Ruben can buy Jim’s tire store together. Not only did Georgie not have to buy the store on his own, but he had the help of both family and a casual rival. In that light, the reasoning behind his animosity toward Sheldon makes little sense.
How Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Can Still Explain TBBT Plot Hole
There’s No Confirmation That Jim’s Store Becomes Dr. Tire
SincePastor Jeff’s role inThe Big Bang Theoryis non-existent, it follows that the idea of Sheldon financing his German studies through the church wouldn’t have been in the pipeline when Georgie’s first appearance was written. However, theGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriageseason 1 finale could have adjusted the tire store plot to resolve the pre-existing plot hole. And, while it’s extraordinarily subtle, there’s actually a chance that they did just that.
When talking about the future, Georgie and Ruben discuss changing the store’s sign if they do enough business. But sinceThe Big Bang Theorynever mentions Georgie having a partner, it’s possible that Jim’s shop isn’t actually the storefront that becomes the first Dr. Tire at all.Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriagecould still have a long way to go before the elder Cooper sibling takes his first real steps toward living his dream as a franchise mogul with a tire-shaped pool. Jim’s store could just be the first step of many on the road to Georgie’s exceptionally bright future.
