Summary
Much like Sumeru and Fontaine, Natlan is expected to be a multi-layered region inGenshin Impact, as a recent leak explains what players can expect in Version 5.0 - and potentially beyond. While the underground layers found in Sumeru frequently feel like a maze, the inclusion of a multi-layered map has allowed developers to add a new dimension to the open world inGenshin Impact, while still keeping exploration clear and concise. Fontaine has expanded on this concept through the inclusion of underwater content, and it looks like Natlan may do the same.
While the main exploration gimmick will revolve around its Saurian mounts, the new region inGenshin Impactwill forgo underwater content for something else altogether. Themap expansion in Version 5.0is rumored to be massive, with plenty of comparisons to the vast deserts and rainforests of Sumeru. Players are expected to utilize mounts when traversing the terrain, but a recent leak claims that Natlan will come with another unique addition.
According to a Reddit post citing the well-known leaker Uncle Teyvat, Natlan will come with a new “sky” layer, possibly to accommodate the floating islands seenduring the livestream for Version 4.7.Genshin Impacthas already toyed with floating islands in Inazuma, and more recently during Fontaine in Version 4.1 as well. Though players have already pieced together a rough outline of what Version 5.0 will look like,Uncle Teyvat has also revealedthe full size and overall placement of the new zone in a rough sketch.
Genshin Impact Rumored To Be Adding Floating Islands In Version 5.0
Version 5.0 will introducethree new characters toGenshin Impact, all coming from different Saurian tribes. Players will be able to visit these locations in Version 5.0, and the sketch reveals that the map expansion will be similar in size to Version 3.1. Given that Version 3.1 also featured plenty of tombs for players to explore, these sky islands in Natlan may play a similar role.
Natlan is expected to release in late August 2024, and will likely feature five map expansions in total during its content era. While Version 5.1 and 5.2 are expected to expand Natlan’s coastline and potentially introduce the three Saurian tribes, the other two zones could feasibly be aMondstadt expansionor an introduction to Snezhnaya. Moreover, the new sky layer in Natlan would seamlessly fit Mondstadt’s identity as the Anemo Nation. For now, Version 5.0 will only connect to the Desert of Hadramaveth, and will still feature underground caves.
