Gambit Has An Advantage Over All Other Sorcerer Supreme Candidates
Every Sorcerer Supreme contender offers something unique to the title. For instance, Carol Danvers is the leader of multiple teams, Valeria Richards has a close connection to Doctor Doom, and both Wanda Maximoff and Agatha Harkness possess an unparalleled wealth of magical knowledge. Meanwhile,Remy LeBeau currently holds the Eye of Agamotto.
In 2024’sUncanny X-Men #1,Gambit stole the left Eye of Agamottoand later convinced the dragon Sadurang to let him keep it. Since then, Gambit has continued to use the powerful artifact, so far with no major side effects. Gambit has been able to tap into the Eye’s immense power, which grants him game-changing abilities like teleportation.
In Marvel lore, the Eye of Agamotto enhances perception, reveals lies, detects magic, and projects powerful energy blasts. In Gambit’s possession, it amplifies his kinetic manipulation to near‑unimaginable levels.Gambit doesn’t even have to have an ample grasp on magic to gain access to an invaluable source of sorcery that makes him capable of challenging cosmic-level threats.

WhileSadurang allowed Gambit to keep the Eye of Agamotto, he also warned Gambit that possessing it inevitably breeds a hunger for flesh.If he does become Sorcerer Supreme, Gambit might relinquish the Eye of Agamotto before it corrupts him entirely. However, Gambit’s reckless nature makes such restraint far from guaranteed.
Ironically, Doctor Doom stole the Sorcerer Supreme title after defeating Varnae and vanquishing his bloodthirsty vampires.
The Sorcerer Supreme mantle could provide Gambit with enough magical resources to mitigate the Eye of Agamotto’s horrific side effects, but Gambit’s cannibalistic urges may not be able to be suppressed entirely. Eventually, the Eye’s corruptive pull would remain, which would inevitably force Remy LeBeau to return it. The longerGambitclings to it, the greater the danger of losing himself to its predatory influence.
