Without a doubt,Epic Gameshas tried out a multitude of Limited Time Events in its wildly successful multiplayer sandbox survival shooter,FortniteBattle Royale, but one mode for the title that the studio has yet to include is first-person. With this being the case, one fan took it upon themselves to experiment with the camera perspective in the game and create a video of what it would be like if players had the chance to experience the free-to-play title as an FPS.
As seen below in the video from the YouTuber andFortnitefan known as Max Box, using the game’s replay mode, they were able to simulate what it would be like if there were an option to shift into first-person perspective in the game. Of course, with Max Box having admitted that they are “trying to forceFortniteto do something it was never intended to do”, some moments in the clip include a lot of buggy encounters.
There are likely loads ofFortnitefans who would enjoy giving a first-person mode for the game a go, but it’s safe to presume that Epic Games won’t be bringing the perspective into the title any time soon. After all,Fortnite’s third-person over-the-shoulder camera placement helps support Epic Games' lucrative revenue generator–that is, premium skins and emotes–and if players weren’t able to see what their avatar looked like, there would be less incentive to purchase the cosmetics.
Of course, should Epic ever decide to take a cue from Max Box and try its hand at implementing a first-person mode inFortnite, it would put the title on par with its competition inPlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsto offer the most robust Battle Royale experience possible. As it so happens,PUBGadded an official first-person modeearlier this year, and it would be interesting to see if Epic chooses to do its own take on the mode in the future.
Fortniteis available now in early access for iOS, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A beta on Android is underway.
