In the last few months,Fortnitehas exploded from a horde-mode focused early access title to a battle royale phenomenon. And along withFortnite’s growth, manyFortniteplayers and streamers have found their own tremendous success.
Most will know that former Halo proNinja has become a record-breaking streameron Twitch and the platform’s most popularFortnitebroadcaster, but plenty of other faces have exploded thanks to the game as well. One such streamer that has seen his own channel balloon to new heights is Dr. Lupo, a formerDestinystreamer that has adapted to become one of the topFortnitebroadcasters on Twitch.
But with that success comes a fair share of negativity and bitterness. Streamers like Dr. Lupo are susceptible to thoughtless acts like swatting, but oftentimes they can make it seem like nothing is wrong. Sometimes they can even excel, like Dr. Lupo did this weekend.
In the above clip, Dr. Lupo can be seen winning a game ofFortnite. It doesn’t seem like much, just a regular day at the office for the doctor, but about midway through the match he leaves and comes back before going on to claim the Victory Royale. For that brief time, Lupo dealt with the issue and seemed unfazed by it.
According to Dr. Lupo, this is the third time that he has been swatted, which is a horrific stat on its own. For those that might not be familiar, swatting is a fake call to the police that tries to portray the situation as life-threatening. To the individual, swatting is seen as a prank, but we prefer to call it like it is: a crime. Swatting can lead to horrible consequences for the victim, as was seen a few months back when aninnocent Kansas man was killed.
For Dr. Lupo this is only a sign of his success, even if it is a potentially dangerous incident. But he managed it well and got the win, and the swatter is left with no satisfaction. Hopefully, more streamers and public personalities can handle things peacefully, and eventually, we can start finding harsher punishments for those that commit the act.
Fortnite Battle Royaleis available for free on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
