Fortnite’s free-to-play economy is mainly driven by its creative and over-the-top skins, with Epic Games releasing new skins for the game on a consistent basis. OneFortnitefan has even taken it upon himself to create his own skins for the game, taking inspiration fromMortal Kombat.

Artist Eric Tran released fan art ofFortniteskins based onMortal Kombatfighters Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The Scorpion skin includes a pickaxe with theMortal Kombatdragon as its blade, whereas Sub-Zero is equipped with a frozen pickaxe and comes complete with a penguin backpack. Unfortunately, the art doesn’t include what the gliders may look like for these characters, but Tran indicated on Twitter that he has some interest in creating those as well.

While it’s unlikely that fans will ever see Tran’sMortal Kombat-inspired skins ever make their way intoFortnite, that doesn’t mean officially licensed skins based on the fighting game franchise can’t appear one day. After all, Epic Games has already dabbled with licensed skins in the past, releasing the popularJohn Wick skin, which is based on the Keanu Reeves action film franchise of the same name.

AsFortnite’s popularity continues to grow, it’s not out of the question that some skins based on other video games will eventually make their debut. After all, developers may be excited at the prospect of featuring some of their characters in what is easily the most popular video game in the world right now, as it could serve as some pretty solid publicity.

Of course, Epic may want to avoid advertising its competition in this way, so licensedFortniteskins may stick to movie properties and other media. In fact, we have already seen the game seemingly mirror blockbuster Hollywood, with recent changes to the map providing evidence that the game is referencingsuperhero and dinosaur films. Perhaps futureFortnitetie-ins could even go beyond skins and include changes to the map itself?

Fortniteis available now in early access for iOS, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
