Chapter 3 is set to shake the game up in the biggest way that players have seen in over two years since the black hole event in October 2019 which took the game from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2 which introduced a new map and brand new mechanics such as fishing. The upcoming Chapter 3 will reportedly bring a new map anda new sliding mechanic, as well as a new collaboration to help promote the upcoming filmThe Matrix Resurrections.

According to prominent leaker HYPEX, a collaboration betweenFortniteandThe Matrixis set to take place in the second half of December, this will bring the characters Neo and Trinity to the game. The next entry in the franchise,The Matrix Resurrections,is set to be released on December 24. This won’t be the first time that Keanu Reeves has been seen inFortnite, with his popular character John Wick being added to the game in 2019.
ThroughoutFortniteChapter 2, players have seen an increasing amount of collaborations, which included an entirelyMarvel-themedChapter 2 Season 4, as well as Season 5 that focused on Agent Jones bringing characters from other universes to the game, including characters from franchises such asHalo,God of War,Street Fighter,Terminator, andThe Walking Dead. At times players have seen collaborations happen on an almost weekly basis.
This has really watered down the special feel that collaborations should have and, although characters fromThe Matrixwill be very exciting for fans, it does just feel like another collaboration to help promote another product. It would be great to see Epic Games scale things back throughout Chapter 3 and focus more on original content and characters to help further advancethe lore ofFortnite, which has become a lot deeper and story-driven than players likely thought would be the case when the battle royale game became a smash hit in late 2017 and early 2018.
