A new trailer for FX’sAlien: Earthhas given a new glimpse at one of the show’s hostile lifeforms, and it’s almost scarier than the classic Xenomorphs. One of thetrailers forAlien: Earthpromised that theAlienTV show would include new lifeforms that are described as “hostile.” That was always an exciting promise, but it just got much more terrifying.

The newest footage ofAlien: Earthhighlights one of the hostile lifeforms it’ll be focusing on, and it’s arguably worse than the franchise’s flagship monsters, the Xenomorphs. I know that sounds like blasphemy - Xenomorphs have propeled theAlienfranchise for 46 years - but this new creature is truly horrifying. It may not be as iconic as the Xenomorph, but it could be just as deadly.

Alien: Earth’s Sheep Reveals A Horrifying New Alien Species

T. Ocellus Seems To Be Capable Of Taking Over A Host’s Brain In Alien: Earth

The newest trailer forAlien: Earthbriefly highlighted a sheep that was onboardEarth’s new ship, theMaginot. The sheep, however, was actually a host for one ofEarth’s new lifeforms, which the trailer dubs “T. Ocellus.“A brief description of T. Ocellus can be seen on a computer monitor in some shots, and you can read it below.

The tentacles carry extraordinary strength and are built to climb into and dislodge the eyes of other living organisms.

Once replaced in the eye socket, T. Ocellus takes over the ocular pathways to the brain, overriding the neuro-transmissions throughout the body.

More study needed to gauge inherent intelligence, though T. Ocellus has shown remarkable problem-solving skills at a near-human [unintelligible].

The image of the sheep with its bloody, bulging eye, coupled with the description of what T. Ocellus does, paints a terrifying picture. It seems that T. Ocellus removed this sheep’s eye, inserted itself, took over the animal’s brain, and is watching the viewer as the camera moves past. It’s a harrowing scene in itself, but there’s even more horror beneath the surface.

It also seems that the crew of theMaginotwas doing some kind of testing on the sheep that T. Ocellus had infected. The sheep has a few sensors on its head and a collar around its neck, which may indicate that the humans on the ship were experimenting on it. If they were,T. Ocellus may be angry and looking for a way to punish its captors inAlien: Earth.

Alien: Earth’s New Species Is Even Worse Than Xenomorphs In One Key Way

Xenomorphs Usually Just Kill People, But T. Ocellus Takes Over Their Body

There’s also one part of T. Ocellus that is arguably more terrifying than the Xenomorphs. Xenomorphs have always had an element of body horror, especially early in the Xenomorph life cycle as a facehugger impregnates a human host and the chestburster is born. However,T. Ocellus turns the body horror up even higher than the Xenomorphs are capable of.

For the most part, adult Xenomorphs essentially just kill their prey fairly quickly.T. Ocellus, however, not only burrows through its prey’s eye, it takes over their bodies and essentially turns them into zombies. It’s the gory body horror of the chestbursters coupled with a new loss of bodily autonomy that the Xenomorphs just aren’t capable of.

While I don’t think T. Ocellus will actually be scarier than a Xenomorph, it does paint a fascinating picture of whatAlien: Earthhas in store. T. Ocellus' brain hijacking is incredibly creepy, but it’s also just one of the species the show has promised to highlight so far. If an eyeball-eating zombie squid is just the tip of the iceberg, I thinkAlien: Earthcould have some horrifying surprises in store.
