Ever since the reveal of Hideo Kojima’s latest project,Death Stranding, at E3 2016, it has likely been at the top of several gamers' most anticipated lists. And with all of the recent teases of a 2019 release coming from the likes of voice actor Troy Baker, Walmart Canada, andHideo Kojima himself, that’s likely to increase the hype behind the action game.

However, despite the high levels of mystery, a glimpse of Kojima’s latest project has been recently been showcased to another studio. Taking to Twitter, the head of marketing and communications for Kojima Productions, Aki Saito, revealed that the first two hours of gameplay have been shown to Guerrilla Games, the development studio responsible forHorizon: Zero Dawn. This reveal alone would have been tantalizing enough forDeath Strandinghopefuls, but the tweet was also associated with an image of a box.

Not only was the first two hours shown to Guerrilla, but it was also demonstrated by Kojima. This only added fuel to the fire as fans slowly tore apart this tweet. Aki Saito makes it clear that the game is not fully complete, but the addition of “…yet” may very well tie in with a 2019 release, at least fostering hope for those who truly want it to be so. Then, the box is described as a symbol of friendship and a place for mutual secrets between Kojima Productions and Guerrilla Games.

This hasn’t stopped a flood of GIFs and comments asking what was in the box. Whether there is truly something in it or if it means more than initially meets the eye remains to be seen, but it’s not the first mysterious addition to the build-up of the game. In fact, this approach to marketing is definitely intentional, withKojima have previously explained why he adopted this method.

Hopefully, fans will learn more about this enigma, as well as its release date, sooner rather than later. Luckily, there have been a few details discussed about the game since its announcement such ashow dying works, but the game does manage to stay as mysterious as ever.
