The Blacksmith

Upgrading the Blacksmith is very important for gaining access to better weapons and improving existing weapons. Grabbing the upgrades to repair higher-quality broken weapons as soon as the player first encounters a broken weapon of that quality will allow players to gain earlier access to some of the game’s more powerful weapons. It also eventually leads to an upgrade that allows the blacksmith to unlockthe hidden skills on Hero’s Relics and sacred weapons, which are incredibly powerful and can vastly increase a character’s strength and capabilities.

The Supply Master

Upgrading the Supply Master allows them to send out a team automatically to gather additional resources while the player is out fighting. This allows the player to return to them occasionally and collect a bunch of free resources, including rare blacksmithing materials and ingredients if the supply master is upgraded to find rarer items. Unlocking the reduced-cost upgrades early can make purchasing things with smithing stones a lot cheaper, and since the supply master will sell upgrade materials for facilities this can be used to further upgrade the base camp. Eventually, it’s worth grabbing the upgrades that add new stock to the supply master too, allowing them to sell the player agarthum, mythril, and umbral steel, which are used for upgrading some of the most powerful weapons in the game.

Training Master

Upgrading the training grounds should be a very high priority for any playstyle, as it featuresupgrades that allow units to take advanced and master class certification tests. These should be prioritized as soon as the materials for the upgrades become available, as they allow units to become much stronger more quickly and give the player more options for playstyle. Grabbing extra training slots is useful for players who plan on recruiting lots of units during their playthrough, allowing them to quickly unlock new skills and master classes. Reducing the cost of leveling up with gold is useful in the late game for improving the levels of units that haven’t been in combat much and have ended up many levels lower that the others.

Tactics Instructor

Upgrading the Tactics instructorallows players to improve various aspects of their units, including the amount and quality of healing items they carry, the strength of their unique skills and crests, and the number of warrior special gauges they possess. This makes the Tactics instructor a very high priority for strengthening units. Being able to upgrade unique skills and enhance crests should be a high priority here since many characters grow substantially in power when these are improved. Players on higher difficulties (and especially in classic mode) should grab the improved healing items and increased number of healing items upgrades as soon as possible to minimize casualties and keep their units fighting for longer.

It’s important to note that, after purchasing the upgrade for the Tactics Instructor, the upgrades must be purchased individually for each unit using gold.

Recreational Facilities

Grabbing upgrades to improve the types of food available from the Kitchen Master is a very good investment, allowing the player to gain extra support points from cooking for other units while also granting powerful buffs that last for the entire chapter. The buffs available further down the upgrade tree include starting the battle with large portions of the awakening or warrior gauges already full, reducing the weapon durability used by magic and combat arts, and increasing the rate at which the two gauges fill up.

Upgrading the available locations for expeditionsis largely just for flavor and variety, though having multiple available does add a chance for one to gain a yellow mark emblem, meaning that choosing it will grant extra affinity.

Upgrading the chances of success at the Kitchen Master is handy for improving the odds of a perfect result, which grants more support points. The same is true for upgrading the chance of success at the Chore Master, though perfect success at the Chore Master also grants extra renown and a bonus item.

Shopkeepers

Upgrading the shopkeepers at camp to increase their available stock can be useful, as it allows the player to more easily gain access to rare resources for upgrading weapons and gifts for boosting support levels and motivation. While not necessarily the most important thing to upgrade early on, doing this in the mid-late game is an excellent investment.
