The game’s release date was initially set for winter of this year, but was pushed back to January of 2020. Earlier today, it was announced that the game has been pushed back further, to Summer of 2020. According to the officialFinal FantasyTwitter, this was done to give the development team more time to polish the game and ensure it has a quality release. No concrete date has been set as of the writing of this article.
This release date pushesFinal Fantasy Crystal ChroniclespastFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, which is set to release on June 19, 2025. As the game was initiallyannounced for the Switch and the PS4, but also later for iOS and Android, it is possible that the delay was in part to ensure the game will run smoothly on all platforms.
While the delay no doubt stings, several have applauded the decision on Twitter, saying they would rather have a polished product than a rushed one. The extra time may also allow for the inclusion of new content, possibly crossing over withFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, which will be well established by that time.
One feature that will likely not be added, however, is one that fans of the original title may sorely miss: local co-op. The game currently has no local co-op, with each player needing their own device to join someone else’s game. Fans may not be happy about this choice, but it’s worth remembering thatFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Editionis not the only upcomingFinal Fantasyspinoff gameto look forward to.
