With a new update releasing exactly a week from today, a PS5 beta releasing that same day, and a new expansion on the horizon later this year,Final Fantasy 14players already have a lot to look forward to in the near future. The conclusion of several events,including theNier: Automataraid series, marks the beginning of the finale to the latest expansion,Shadowbringers.

Over the past year, many players have begun their adventure throughout Eorzea, increasing the player count of Square’s long-running MMO at an extraordinary pace. After over a decade following its resurgence asA Realm Reborn, theFinal Fantasy 14franchise has another milestone to celebrate on top of its many existing accolades.

During the latest Letter from the Producer LIVE,Final Fantasy 14’sDirector Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the game has amassed over 22 million registered accounts.In July 2020, Square announcedits title had over 20 million registered players, making the increase in 2 million players over an eight-month span an impressive feat. The announcement of the milestone alongside the live letter in its entirety can be viewed on YouTube.

Part of the reason for this massive influx of players can be attributed to thefree trial campaign thatFinal Fantasy 14implemented last year, offering free gameplay up to and including the Heavensward expansion. Since its changes to the free trial, the player count has increased substantially, partially due to word of mouth within the community itself.

Other key details discussed during the live letter were gameplay footage from the upcoming PS5 version ofFinal Fantasy 14. The beta,releasing on the same date as Patch 5.5 on April 13th, will include a higher resolution UI and faster loading times to bring the gameplay of the console version up to par with the PC version.

Final Fantasy 14is out now on PC and PS4, with a beta launching on PS5 on April 13.
