Even withBethesda already under investigation by a law firmfor false claims, theFallout 76developer has another fight brewing on its doorstep. The gaming company advertised several bonuses as part of theFallout 76Collector’s Edition, including 24 figurines, a power armor helmet, a map of Appalachia, a collectible steelbook, and a West Tek Canvas carrying bag.
However, those who elected to purchase theFallout 76Collector’s Edition noticed one very strange change upon receiving it: the canvas bag was made of nylon, a far cheaper material than advertised. As seen below, the advertised bag and the shipped bag look nothing alike, but what some may consider worse is Bethesda’s response to the situation.
WhenoneFallout 76Collector’s Edition ownerreached out, a customer service representative claimed that the advertised bag was too expensive. Despite the $200 price tag, Bethesda (or the Collector’s Edition’s manufacturers) still needed to cut corners to meet costs. It’s an explanation that makes sense but things were made worse because the Helpdesk went on to say, “we aren’t planning on doing anything about it.”
Obviously,Fallout 76players are troubled by the bag material switch and this response. As of this writing, it’s worth highlighting that Bethesda’s website still describes the product as a canvas bag, with it only being changed to nylon when proceeding to the transaction.
All things considered, it’s understandable why a number ofFallout 76Collector’s Edition owners would be upset over this blatant bait-and-switch marketing tactic. Bethesda has already offeredplayer compensation following price cuts, but this is a different issue entirely. Presumably, those that purchased the Collector’s Edition are among Bethesda and theFalloutfranchise’s biggest fans. To give them such a curt response is unlikely to go over well.
Fallout 76is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
