Last year at The Game Awards, fans of theEvil Deadfranchisewere pleased to learn that it would be receiving a brand new and wholly original videogame, simply titledEvil Dead: The Game. Described as a co-op and PvP multiplayer game, it was originally scheduled to release at some point in 2021. Unfortunately, earlier today, it was announced that the game would have to be pushed back February 2022. But aside from some additional polish, the reason for the delay is so the team can add an important feature.

WhileEvil Dead: The Gameis ostensibly a multiplayer title, developer Saber Interactive (the studio behindWorld War Z) and publisher Boss Team Games have decided to add a single-player component. That way, players will be able to play through the game solo and not always need to wait until their friends are available.

Currently, it’s not clear whether this means players will be accompanied by AI controlled teammates or if they will be completely alone. It’s also unknown ifEvil Dead: The Gamewill feature any sort of single-player campaign mode or story mode, as no such mode has been confirmed yet.

While the wait for the game has got a little longer, fans can expect new character updates, pre-order information, and another gameplay demonstration. And just like the last one, it willfeature Ash Williams himself, Bruce Campbell.

Judging by the responses on Twitter, the decision has been met with a mostly positive reception. Aside from fans simply asking that the developers take as long as they need to make the game the best it can possibly be, many others are thrilled that it’s receiving a single-player option after all. A couple of fans even say that the news means they’ll now purchase the game themselves.

InEvil Dead: The Game, players can take control of one of many classicEvil Deadcharacters from across the franchise, including all three of the original movies and the TV show, and must work together to fight off hordes of Deadites using various weapons (no sign of any characters fromthe 2013Evil Deadremakethough). However, there is also an option to play as the Kandarian Demon and take out the heroes by possessing Deadites, the environment, and even the heroes themselves. While it is coming to multiple platforms, cross-play has yet to be confirmed for the game.

Evil Dead: The Gamereleases in February 2022 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
