Lucasfilm has just revealed some of the returning cast ofThe Mandalorian and Grogu, the nextStar Warsmovie. Audiences atStar WarsCelebration Japanwere treated to a sneak peek at footage fromThe Mandalorian and Grogu, which showcased some of what we can expect when the movie drops July 01, 2025.

While details about the plot are surprisingly sparse, thefirst footage fromThe Mandalorian & Grogu- which was seen live byScreenRant’s very own Molly Brizzell and James Hunt - confirmed much of what was already rumored. This includes the return of a Razor Ship, the same ship type Din Djarin originally used until it was destroyed inThe Mandalorianseason 2. No doubt a full theatrical trailer will come out nearer to release, but for now, we know quite a bit about the returning characters.

5Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin

Pascal May Be Doing More Than Just Voicing the Character

AtStar WarsCelebration 2025, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau unveiled an image ofPedro Pascal unmasked in the Mandalorian armor. This hints that the actor will be back in the suit for the first time sinceThe Book of Boba Fett. Pascal’s role as Din Djarin gradually morphed into a largely voice role, especially as the actor became busier and his schedule filled up. However,The Mandalorianand Grogumay see Din Djarin once again remove his helmet.

Speaking toScreenRant, Pedro Pascal refused to be drawn on whether he’ll be unmasked. He did, however, hypeThe Mandalorian & Groguas one of the greatest adventure movies:

“I hope [I do unmask], I really do. I know everything that there is to know, and I’m not gonna tell you any of it because I want you to experience it.I want everyone to experience the incredible surprises that are in store in one of the greatest adventure movies that has ever been made. I mean that.”

4Grogu

The Baby is Growing Up

Ever since Grogu first graced our screens back in 2019, he’s been a fan favorite. Not only does “Baby Yoda” endear audiences with his adorable coos and insatiable stomach, buthis loyalty to Din Djarin has made Grogu an amazing character. While onstage atStar WarsCelebration,The Mandalorian and Grogudirector Jon Favreau brought out the Grogu puppet and had it interact with actors Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver.

Footage shown atStar WarsCelebration 2025 showed Grogu as a bit more mature than when we last saw him inThe Mandalorianseason 3.

Footage shown atStar WarsCelebration 2025 showed Grogu as a bit more mature than when we last saw him inThe Mandalorianseason 3. In the trailer,Grogu can be seen using the Force to dismantle a mouse droid as well as swimming in water. Despite all of these new developments, footage also showed Grogu trying to get his hands on food, just as he always had.

3Steve Blum as Zeb Orrelios

The Lasat Honor Guard is Back

Steve Blum first voiced the gruffGarazeb OrreliosinStar Wars Rebels, where he quickly became a fan favorite. Not only is Zeb incredibly loyal, but despite his hard exterior, he is extremely caring.Zeb made his live-action debut inThe Mandalorianseason 3, where he made a cameo on the Adelphi base, which is where Din Djarin and Grogu will be based out of inThe Mandalorian and Grogu. We learned from Sabine Wren inAhsokaseason 1 that Zeb was working with the New Republic to train pilots.

Zeb was the firstRebelsmain character to appear in live-action. Other characters like Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and Ezra Bridger have appeared inAhsoka.

Footage ofThe Mandalorian and Groguat D23 first showed Zeb with Din Djarin and Grogu, butfootage shown atStar WarsCelebration shows Din Djarin walking with the Lasat, presumably on Adelphi Base. It’s not clear how large of a role Zeb will play inThe Mandalorian and Grogu, or what his relationship is toSigourney Weaver’s character. Either way, it’s great to have Steve Blum back as Zeb and to get to see him work with other fan-favoriteStar Warscharacters.

2R5-D4

The Droid Returns From The Mandalorian Season 3

R5-D4 first appeared in the originalStar Warsmovie back in 1977 (later retitledA New Hope) as one of the droids Uncle Owen Lars was looking to buy off the Jawas. While R5 had little to do in the film, he later returned inThe Mandalorianseason 3when he was given to Din Djarin by Peli Motto. R5 was tasked with helping Din Djarin determine if the air on Mandalore was breathable.

R5 was adorably scared for most ofThe Mandalorianseason 3, though eventually stood up to an Imperial mouse droid. In the trailer footage fromThe Mandalorian and Grogushown atStar WarsCelebration 2025,R5-D4 can be seen in the background along with some ofJedi: Fallen Order’s BDX droids. It’s cool to see director Jon Favreau bring back these minor characters, even if they likely won’t have a big role to play. R5-D4 is one of the few droids Din Djarin trusts, so it’s possible if he needs a droid, R5 will be the one Din Djarin goes to first.

1Jeremy Allen White as Rotta The Hutt

The Bear Star is Set to Make His Star Wars Debut

It came as a bit of a shock when it was announced thatThe BearstarJeremy Allen White would be taking on the role of Rutta the Hutt, son of Jabba the Hutt,inThe Mandalorian and Grogu. Rutta first appeared inStar Wars: The Clone Warsanimated film from 2008. Asajj Ventress had kidnapped the character but was later rescued by Anakin Skywalker and his brand-new Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, who gave Rutta the nickname Stinky. It’s unclear if Rutta will still go by the nickname or what kind of role he’ll be playing in the film.

Untitled Taika Waititi Film

Taika Waititi

There’s a brief glimpse of what appears to be Rotta inThe Mandalorian & Grogu, although there is never a clear shot of him. However, knowing that Jeremy Allen White is set to appear as the Hutt makes us pretty sure this was our first look at Rutta, who seemed to be in some kind of fighting ring. While Rutta may be a bit of an odd character to bring back, it’ll be interesting to see how this appearance fits in withThe Mandalorian and Grogu, and otherStar Warstitles to come.
