The title is set to release this Friday, May 14, but some Xbox players who have preordered the game are reporting receiving e-mails saying that the release date has changed. The e-mail says that the game’s release date has been changed to May 13 at midnight, which would give it to players on the platform an entire day early. With howdedicated theMass Effectcommunity is, it comes as no surprise that many of them are very excited at the possibility of getting their hands on the game early.
Interestingly, the Xbox store still lists the game as launching on its original release date at midnight on May 14. Neither Microsoft nor BioWare have commented on the e-mails as of yet, so it is not clear whether or not the release date was changed by accident or if the game really is releasing early on the platform.
It would be surprising if Xbox got such a deal so close to the release of the game, but it is not impossible. Xbox does have a close relationship with the game’s publisher EA, withEA Play even recently being included as part of Xbox Game Pass.
Whether or not the release change is official will likely be cleared up soon. It does seem possible that Xbox fans will be able to get their hands on the game early, but the community will just have to wait until Xbox or BioWare releases an official comment on the issue.
Thankfully, fans have little time to wait until they can playMass Effect: Legendary Editioneither way, as part of a release line-up that could very well makeMay the best month for game releases so far this year. Until then, players better make space on their hard drives for the game’s sizable download and big day one patch.
