Disintegrationwas announced in 2019 and has turned some heads with how it seems to blend old-school and modern FPS design. The game is being developed by V1 Interactive, a new independent studiofounded by formerHalodevelopers. The studio is headed up by former Bungie creative director and co-creator ofHaloMarcus Lehto.Disintegrationwill be published by Take-Two’s Private Division sometime in 2020, but the beta launches in just a couple weeks.

The closed beta, that players can register for on the website, runs on Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29 from 8am to 11:59pm PT. For those who can’t get into the closed technical beta, the open beta will run from from January 31-February 1. Both betas will be playable on all three platforms.

Disintegrationis a team-based shooter where players choose different teams with unique abilities to face off in objective based modes. It sounds a lot likeOverwatchin some ways, butDisintegrationlooks much more focused on verticality and mech action. The gameplay looks like it will scratch the same itch that the multiplayer inTitanfall 2did for its dedicated fanbase.

Both of the two betas will feature two of the game’s multiplayer modes. The game is set to launch with three modes, but the name and gameplay of the third mode is yet to be revealed.  The first mode featured in the beta is Retrieval, anOverwatch-like mode where two teams compete over a payload escort. The second game mode is Control, which is more like a traditional FPS mode from a competitive shooter, sees two teams competing to seize points in a variant of theCall of Dutydomination mode.

The term technical beta implies that this game is still a bit of a ways out. This beta will not just be a gameplay demo forDisintegrationbut also a way for the developers to test the game’s balance and stability and gather feedback from the community. It seems like an exciting proposition for fans of shooters likeHalo: ReachorTitanfall 2.
