In recent years, Capcom has become known as an aficionado of sorts for remakes.Resident Evil 2was critically acclaimed, whileRE3didn’t meet everyone’s expectations. AResident Evil 4 Remakeis reportedly in the works as well, set to follow some time afterthe release ofRE8.However, Capcom owns several IPs such asDead RisingandDino Crisis, among many others.

Now, a recent report from reliable and independent reporter Liam Robertson dove into everything Capcom and revealed the troubled history behind bothDead RisingandDino Crisis. Capcom Vancouver, formerly known as Blue Castle Games, was responsible for theDead Risingfranchise, which was reportedly troubled since the second game. This manifested in the average-to-negative reception ofDead Rising 4and the failure ofDead Rising 5to even manifest.

What’s more,Capcom Vancouverhad pitched an idea related toDino Crisisabout 5 years ago. This was before it was closed down in 2018, and it likely means it would be in fans' hands by now…had it been approved. The troubled development ofDead Rising 4saw employees leave following senior leads being fired, seemingly exacerbated byDino Crisisand more being rejected.

Capcom Japanshot down theDino Crisisreboot, with it never getting out of the pitching phase. According to Robertson, “developers believed that [Capcom Japan was] unwilling to make the significant investment in new technology that the project would have required.” At the time, thisDino Crisisreboot wasn’t the only idea that was shot down, as dev interviews talk about other rejects, including an action-focusedResident Evil X, anOnimusharevival, and aMega Mansidescroller.

Even though it never came to fruition, it seems Capcom Vancouver tried to get the ball rolling on a newDino Crisisgame, something fans are dying for this day. In fact, theResident Evil 4 Remakereport upset manyDino Crisisfanswho thought a remake of it was on the way. It’s uncertain if another Capcom studio is currently working on the franchise, but simple rumors and leaks aside, most reports point toward cancellations and an unlikely verdict.

Dino Crisisis available for Dreamcast, PC, and PS1.
