Summary
During the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2023,Diablo 4had plenty of new content to show off including a preview of things coming later inside of Season 2. Known as Season of Blood, the latest adventure introducesDiablo 4players to a new NPC character called Erys, a vampire hunter voiced by Gemma Chan. Working together, players are going after an entity known as the Dark Master who leads a vampire horde that has descended upon Sanctuary through a new quest line that can be started in the town of Ked Bardu.
Similar to Season 1’s use of malignant hearts as a newDiablo 4gameplay mechanic, Season of Blood allows players to siphon the blood of their enemies through unlocking vampiric powers while wieldingspecialDiablo 4gear called Pact Armorthat features the stats needed to empower them through Ferocity, Divinity, and Eternity. As players continue to explore the new loot, gameplay, as well as events, Blizzard dropped a ton of new details on the rest of this season’s upcoming content and changes.
New Content Coming to Diablo 4’s Season of Blood
At BlizzCon 2023,Diablo 4had more than a few announcements to share including a roadmap through the rest of this year. In asupporting blog post, Blizzard provided additional details of the announcements including a tease of the third season, which adds a weekly challenge dungeon called The Gauntlet, letting players compete for Class rankings and a spot in the Seasonal Hall of the Ancients. However, in the near future,Diablo 4is getting its first holiday event called Midwinter Blight starting on December 12 for three weeks only. Details are slim, though the post teased new quests and activities to take part in as well as a new world boss that seems to be a twisted version of Santa Claus.
Diablo 4 Season of Blood Changes and Patches
Alongside content teases, the roadmap detailed upcoming patch highlights with Version 1.2.2 adding class-specific unique malignant rings on November 7. That is followed on December 5 by patch 1.2.3 which adds apreview feature to the Occultist vendorwhich will allow players to see what affixes are possible before spending the gold. This update also adds Abattoir of Zir, intended to be a highly replayable end-game event experience over a six-week period of time. Blizzard went a bit further to indicate that Abattoir of Zir is specifically intended for level 100 players that have not only slain Uber Duriel, but mastered all Season of Blood challenges as well.
In addition to Season 2 updates, Blizzard also surprised the crowd by revealing a teaser trailer for thefirst expansion forDiablo 4called Vessel of Hatred. Not much is known, but the trailer did feature a voice-over from Mephisto with the sounds of Neyrelle in the background. While not specifically indicated, it also appears to be set inside the heavily forested region of Kehjistan and likely with Mephisto’s crazed disciples known as the Triune.
