There have long been talks about a show focused on the infamous Trinity Killer (John Lithgow), butDextershowrunner Clyde Phillips just gave a disappointing update on the project. Phillips mentioned at about the same timeDexter: Original Sindebuted thatall the episodes of the Trinity prequel series had been writtenand that John Lithgow had agreed to narrate.Trinity is even set to appear inDexter: Resurrection.

In an interview withCollider, however, Clyde Phillips explained thatthe Trinity spinoff show, despite being written, hasn’t been picked up by Showtime, Paramount, or any other production company.

“It’s completely written. John Lithgow has agreed to do the voice, to narrate it, but it is not picked up yet. We’re hoping that with the success of Resurrection, and Original Sin [season 2] has just been picked up, that Chris McCarthy and the Paramount people will want to expand the Dexterverse. But it has not been picked up yet.”

All theDextershowshave historically aired on Showtime, which has always been part of Paramount Global. It’s possible that Paramount is waiting to see howDexter: Resurrection, which premieres on Friday, performs before throwing money at anotherDextershow.Original Sinwas already popular, butDexterhas never followed a protagonist who wasn’t named Dexter before.

Clyde Phillps and Scott Reynolds, the other showrunner ofDexter: Resurrection, also sounded very confident in the Trinity spinoff show.If it’s as good as Phillips and Reynolds claim, the Trinity prequel show may very well be picked up by Paramount in the coming months.

What Clyde Phillips' Trinity Spinoff Update Means For The Show

The fact that the Trinity spinoff show hasn’t been picked up by Paramount or Showtime yet is frankly a bad sign. Showtime has been focused on expanding the “Dexterverse” for years now, withOriginal SinandResurrectionbeing just the first products of that goal.Despite Showtime’s plans to makeDextera franchise, the Trinity Killer show still hasn’t been picked up.

This news, that the series is complete but has no production order, may be a sign that Paramount isn’t fully confident in the project. It has been nearly 16 years since Trinity starred inDexterseason 4, after all, and there’s no guarantee the character would be as popular as Dexter Morgan has proven to be. Paramount may be waiting for some proof that viewers will watch the Trinity series.

Dexter: Resurrectionmay be the answer to that problem.John Lithgow is set to appear in the sequel series, and his cameo may reignite some interest in the Trinity Killer and his story. Paramount and Showtime may be watching the buzz online after his cameo, and that may influence their decision on the Trinity spinoff show.

Our Take On The Trinity Killer Spinoff Show & Its Chances

The Trinity Spinoff Could Be Interesting, But I’m Not Sure It’s A Great Idea

I personally wonder if a Trinity-centered spinoff show is even a good idea.Trinity is fun to watch as an antagonist to Dexter, but I doubt he’d be the type of character you would want to root for on his own. Trinity kills innocent people - including children - severely abuses his own family, and is generally just a very evil person, even compared to Dexter.

It would be interesting to get some more insight into Arthur Mitchell’s early years, and I think the Trinity show could add a lot to the ever-expanding Dexterverse.

Still, it would be interesting to get some more insight into Arthur Mitchell’s early years, and I think the Trinity show could add a lot to the ever-expanding Dexterverse. It would also be nice to see Frank Lundy again, even if it is a younger version of him hunting down Arthur. I hope thatDexterand its showrunners at least get the chance to tell the whole story of the Trinity Killer, and the show gets picked up.
